Getting to work tomorrow
At least in theory, I'm supposed to turn up at work at the usual time tomorrow. I'm still hoping for a work-from-home reprieve, but if that doesn't work out, how on earth should I get to Murray Hill? I suppose if the MTA is still not up and running, the cabs may still be operating on a zone system, but that's only helpful if I can find one. I'm guessing many people will contrive to take the day off, so we won't be organizing carpools like we did for the transit strike in 2005. What are other people planning--anyone going in the same direction as me?

I think they will successfully run sporadic service tomorrow.
If there is no subway, my good faith effort will entail waking up earlier than usual, then walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.
I'll arrive about an hour late, but get credit for showing up, and a nice walk.

I need to go to 45th and 5th av in Manhattan tomorrow morning. Would you like to share a ride?

Question in regard to work tomorrow: I assume all city agencies are going to be running? Like principals still must attend work tomorrow? Nothing posted on the DOE website..
But then I read in the Times that jury duty is cancelled for tomorrow? Is that true? I can't seem to find it through google... And my husband is supposed to have jury duty.
If jurors don't have to go in does that mean courts are closed? and if courts are closed doesn't it mean other agencies are closed? There should be more info out there!! Aghh

I'm planning on going in only if there is subway service. If the buses are running, ideally I could take the bus downtown, walk across the bridge, then take the bus to work, but that is probably a two hour plus commute. I figure train service will probably be running by the evening.

Buses are running as of 10 minutes ago in Manhattan and the other boroughs are being added throughout the afternoon/evening.

In an earlier press conference Bloomberg said that all city departments would be open tomorrow.

I am moving schools and my old principal doesn't seem to answer phones/emails -- I'm supposed to go pick up my stuff tomorrow and couldn't find out whether she would still be there or not. I hope so! I'd hate for my parents to drive in from PA to help me haul stuff and then not be able to get into the school!

saw buses running in my hood.

Go to nycourts.gov for info on jury duty and court closings. They will probably have newer info early Monday morning.

BTW, the court system is run by NY State not the city of New York. Bloomberg does not make the decisions about court closings. If jurors don't have to go in that does not necc mean the courts are closed. They could be open only for emergency functions but not everything.

obdi, I'm on B68 line (Coney Island Av and Av J) and going to midtown, so I'd like to share the ride with you, but is it possible to leave little earlier?

Jury duty is cancelled for tomorrow, but my husband and I (both city workers) have to go to work.

I think I'll bike to work tomorrow. I haven't done that for years, but even if the trains are running, they'll be a disaster.

For people who are biking, Brooklyn Spoke is organizing an informal bike pool from Park Slope (in front of Gorilla) leaving at 8:15 AM.

I'm going in, but I got a note from a co-worker that all NJ Transit trains are suspended tomorrow, so the only NJ folks will be those that take the bus or PATH. Office will be a freaking ghost town.
