PRESS CONFERENCE TO ADDRESS SHOOTINGS
CHCA, Council Member Letitia James and Save Our Streets are sponsoring a press conference to address the shootings Monday, gun violence in our community and to support the families of those who died. New Yorkers Against Gun Violence will be there along with other elected officials.
We urge EVERYONE to come out and show a united community, it is the first step towards reclaiming our streets.

We have started a fund for Denise Gay's daughter
(Ms. Gay was the innocent bystander senselessly killed in the shoot out)
Donations can be dropped off at HAD Associates/737 Franklin Avenue
We will also be collecting them at Thursday's Press Conference
and at our September 20th meeting (at HAD Assoc)Checks can be made out to Crow Hill Community Association
with "Denise Gay Fund" in the memo
Cash should be in a sealed envelope with
"CHCA/Denise Gay Fund" written on the outside -
I hope to be back from work on time. Thanks for posting.

I'd estimate there were about 150 people
10 members of Save Our Streets
5 politicians
5 Clergy
15 police
5 people passing out CHCA flyers
5 people with petitions for gun control
10 media people

That is a good turnout. And it got a mention from Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111904836104576558952908661920.html

I suspect it was mentioned on some of tonight's TV newscasts as well.

I wish these meetings were 45 mins later. Those of us who work in Manhattan can never get back home to Brooklyn by 6 pm.
Also another practical and pragmatic approach would be to also work to curtail the WI Day parade, as it has gotten to big, and out of hand.
If the parade were scheduled to a Sat on a two day weekend, I promise you there would be much less trouble for everybody (police included).

FYI
the rally was originally scheduled for 7, it was moved so as not to coincide with the first Community Board 8 meeting of the year
