WTF? Another New Restaurant/Bar On Myrtle Avenue? — Brooklynian

WTF? Another New Restaurant/Bar On Myrtle Avenue?

No, no, no and NO! Clinton Hill (technically this place will be in Bed-Stuy but try telling that to Brownstoner) does NOT need another phuqing restaurant or bar. There's already one short stretch of Myrtle with six restaurants in a row!

Am I the only one that thinks it would be a good idea to have an honest to goodness bakery (not a misnamed dessert bar) in the nabe? How about a butcher? Some place where I can buy a steak that's not already wrapped in plastic.

From the economic standpoint I find it hard to believe that all of the new places are going to be able to make a go of it. I haven't done the market research but I can't believe that there's a bottomless pit of disposable income in the neighborhood but that sure seems to be the belief of developers.

  • I mean, their are neighborhoods similar to CH/B-S borderlands that support way more bars than this area has now, you know?

I agree there's a serious lack of butchers and bakers and the like, but that's a problem city-wide, IMO.

I wonder if the city offers incentives for specialized businesses that are underrepresented.

None that I am aware of.

...but DOH has recently made it very easy to get a vendor permit to sell fruit on the street. Hence, I am beginning to see more of those "Green Carts".

  • Yup, the Green Cart program is great.

Too many (poorer) neighborhoods in the city don't have access to decent fruits & veggies.

  • While I agree a good butcher, bakery, or fish-monger would be great I also love me some beer so I'm OK with this.
