I never understood american youthgrants who move into high crime areas — Brooklynian

I never understood american youthgrants who move into high crime areas

while avoiding areas like

bensonhurst, gravesend, bath beach, bay ridge etc...

are we not diverse enough for you?

I don't get it at all. is it the hood is too many(mostly from europe and asia) immigrants or just too white?

I just don't get it. besides the slight farther commute, its cheap rents and very safe. got plenty of stores and restaurants etc...

When i was doing the van thing, I move literally thousands of people into high crime areas vs maybe 1 person into the areas i described. these kids are normally college educated white kids lol. I don't get it.

  • what's american youthgrant?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by 'high crime' or which neighborhoods you're referring to.

  • I love armchair_warrior He provides such great entertainment, now all I need is a Riesling and some cashews.

  • hah I know exactly what you're talking about and I know exactly why we don't. I live in bed stuy and it's the cat's pajamas. first of all I'm a twenty minute bike ride to williamsburg, the mecca of hipsterdom. ten to fort greene. both these areas channel manhattan through very different brooklyn dialects. secondly, I'm just as close by train to manhattan, but I'm paying a forth of the price for the same amount of space. and the best part? the williamsburg/fort green/bed-stuy fusion places, the places that indicate that these areas ravaged by crime and poverty for decades are starting to pick themselves up. but I don't want to live in a gentrified bubble. I'm definitely in the hood and it definitely suites my lifestyle of buying ballantine forties at 3 am and smoking fat blunts, as I'm sure it does for most "youthgrants."

now for bay ridge, where I work two jobs...

it's lame. so lame. it's full of people who don't want to leave nyc but don't want anything to do with manhattan, except work there and make a buttload of money to support their neighborhood doctors. seriously, how many doctors does bay ridge need? there are 200 doctors for every one hip establishment. I spend so much time there but I've never seen a bar I'd like to go into, and although I love the vast array of cuisines I can indulge in there, it's not exactly a foie gras donut (looking at you, Do or Dine). Bay Ridge and areas like it are cultural hotspots but for FAMILIES, not for a hipster looking to get laid on a friday night. also, way too many teenagers. rich, spoiled teenagers who slash my bike tires.

    hope that answers your question!

  • haha. That should about do it.

  • lol people who don't leave are those were born and bred in those neighbourhoods, generally same as any other neighbourhoods in nyc. You'll get those same people in the hoods you like.

  • and i can't wait for all the local inbred idiots move south or li or jersery or florida. they are worst parts of nyc. they are in every freaking neighbourhood making new people feel like outsiders.

if anyone thinks local inbreeds are only in the neighborhoods i listed are in denial as usual.
