Brooklyn-wide elections 9/13. Please vote! And get informed!

There is an election that's coming up on Tuesday 9/13, and there's still time to make an informed decision.

Registered Democrats of Brooklyn (and other parts of New York) have a chance to chose a Civil Court judge. This might not effect you now, but at some point in most everyone's life, we all will face a judge who will decide our fate. It's odd to elect people for this, but we have one candidate who is eminently qualified for the position.

This post expresses my personal views, and not those of any of my organizations.

Having said my disclaimers,

I urge you to vote for Cheryl Gonzales. [i][u]

I have had a chance to grill her at length in person, and I have spoken to many people who have worked with her professionally. I can safely say that she is smart and very well qualified. Equally important, she is fair, and I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

I should mention that Ms. Gonzales' opponent, Sharen Hudson, has been deemed qualified, and she seems nice as well. She has been endorsed by some people I like, but I was unable to meet with her. It's important to mention that she failed to report any of her finances- given how difficult to chose judges, I find this failure of transparency troubling.

Please make your own decision. Here are some useful links.

NY Times endorsement (which I agree with)

A good overview of the election by Jo Anne Simon and Chris Owens

Praise for Sharen Hudson by Walter Mosley

Oh yeah, there are some other important elections. Democrat David Weprin is running to replace Anthony Weiner against a Republican, and a very interesting race in the 54th Assembly District.
