creepy woods guy... — Brooklynian

creepy woods guy...

captain salty
edited November -1 in Park Slope
so last night walking the puppy in the prospect park, my girlfriend and i noticed a guy standing in the woods about ten feet off the path, on the path from where the puppy beach/pond is, past the waterfall and down to the nethermead.

he was still standing in the same spot when we walked back past him about 30 minutes later.

he was standing about ten feet back from the path, a few feet up from where the water passes beneath the path.

creepy, very creepy, considering there was a rape in the park a few days ago.

  • rape? hmm havent read about that one. link please.
  • There's a lot of down low action in the Park, especially around the Vale of Kashmir.
  • the downlow action is over by the vale of cashmere

in the ravine is where the less scrupulous hang out
between the long meadow and the nethermead

if you had a cell phone on you, you could call in a complaint,
asking that an officer come check the area out
  • When I served on jury duty, all of the criminal cases allegedly happened in Prospect Park. None of the cases involved rape or murder. I feel VERY safe in the park and was surprised. Nothing I heard would prevent me from going to the park. I'm more afraid of getting mauled by someone's dog than mugged.
  • that's interesting, seeing as how there were a bunch of muggings in the park this summer.

yeh. i read about muggings in the park all the time
i don't remember any episodes of dogs mauling people in the park tho' :D
  • there was a woman who was attacked in broad daylight early on in the summer, right at one of the PPW entrances.
  • I saw someone get attacked by a pitbull in the park a couple of summers ago. This was over by the Ocean Parkway entrance. A gang of kids had an unleashed pitbull that went over and attacked a dog that was on a leash. The owner tried to protect his dog and was attacked by the pitbull. Luckily, there happened to be an undercover cop in the area who was able to call for back-up immediately. it was pretty scary. The poor guy was knocked over by the dog and had some nasty lacerations on his leg.

yea. whenever i see a pack of kids with pit bulls i head for the hills
that's just a heapful of trouble brewing

if you ever have a similar dog attack. choke the dog by the throat.
cuts of the air to the brain and the dog loses consciousness for a few minutes
    very effective. no bloodshed.

Police Foil Attempted Rape In Prospect Park

Quick police work saved a woman from being raped in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Tuesday.

Police say an officer on patrol saw a homeless man assaulting a 33-year-old woman around noon by the Third Street entrance of the park. The officer, Anthony Ward, chased the suspect, 44-year-old Bernie Hogan, and arrested him, according to authorities.

“I did not see anybody, and I’m thinking, ‘What's the bicycle doing there?’” said Ward. “As I glance over to my right, I happened to see a male over a man or woman – but he was beating the person.”

Hogan is charged with attempted rape, assault and resisting arrest.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries to her head and face.

it wasn't this one, but one earlier this year. i can't find the news clip, but as i recall the attackers were rather brazen in broad daylight

Was this the one with the woman with a stroller who was hit and her Ipod stolen? And I think there was one involving a teenager(s) at the 3rd st/PPW entrance...?

    yes, this is that one

Okay. That wasn't a rape, though, was it? If I remember right, the woman wasn't raped. Not that it shouldn't be taken seriously because it wasn't, but the original post said there was a rape in the park a few days ago, and I still haven't seen anything to indicate that's true.

    Either way it's scary.

no, it wasn't a rape. and yes, a rape is worse. but i have to tell you, it's pretty offensive to share that opinion out loud. i think it's one of those things we all *think*, but don't say.

I'm not sure from reading this whether you might mean you thought that what *I* was saying was offensive, or whether you might mean you thought that I was saying anything about whether one's worse or the other. I hope I didn't come off sounding like a jerk. ANY attack in the park is scary and good reason to be more cautious -- but of course rape is way, way worse than a mugging. I'm totally with you there. I'm just trying to figure out whether there really was a rape at the park in the last few days, as was alleged in the first post in this thread.
  • Where's Capt Salty? I'd like to know where he heard about this rape. I also checked the local media outlets and found nothing.

What on earth is offensive here? I see someone asking for a clarification.

apollonia666 expressed no opinion, only a question regarding fact. You have imputed an opinion to apollonia absent any evidence of such.

I'm confused as well. What is it that "we all" are thinking but won't say? I've read this three times and I truly still don't understand.
  • i'm sorry i over-reacted! it's just when i see the words "That wasn't a rape, though, was it?" i get freaked out.

sorry. apologize. hiding now under bed

Believe me, I know the feeling. (I hide in our dark basement though, a red face guiding my way :) ) Now come back out from under there!

No sweat. Like I said, EITHER is pretty scary, and I wasn't trying to make a value judgement on whatever happened (although yeah, I DO think rape is worse than a mugging, for the record). I just want to know whether there really was a rape a few days ago in the park or not -- we shouldn't spread incorrect information here. Not that some poor woman being smacked upside the head while minding her own business in the park with her baby is any less a reason for concern. That's pretty fucked up too, and I'm sure it was terrifying and traumatizing for the person it happened to.
