Bike share station in Prospect Heights

Here's a link of where to suggest a bike share station in New York:

Do people want one on Vanderbilt? I think it would make a lot of sense to have something that goes from our neighborhood to the G line, but I'd like to hear from non-bikers and others who don't want a certain location.

  • I'm a non-biker and that sounds great. I really want one in the park or right at the entrance near GAP. Then I would be far more inclined to try and learn in the park. It's the idea of getting there and back that gives me the heebie-jeebies.

What scrooge out there would pooh-pooh a bike share program?

  • Has anyone heard from Marty Markowitz yet?

  • LMAO, looks like people want them right outside their front doors..

  • I think the map is called "Design by Committee".

Or, maybe it is "Excessive Democracy".

  • When I was in Paris last year with my wife, I noted their share program and said it would be great to have one in NYC, but it would never work because people here like to break and steal stuff all the time. I guess someone thought differently, maybe it will work here? I hope so!

NPR had a bit on this earlier this week, apparently it is working well in DC and some other metro areas.

I say we plant one right out front of Marty's place :-P

  • People have been creating usernames such as Marty Markowitz, and have been posting on gothamist, gawker, etc.

  • For the love of God, do not put a bikeshare station on Vanderbilt near Prospect Place.....the corner is already choked with Milk Bar patrons wielding strollers and/or dogs.

  • Velib Paris

Yeah it works great in Paris, where cyclists stop for traffic lights and don't ride on the sidewalk. I can't recall ever seeing anyone decked out in spandex either...

  • Someone needs to modify that map so that a marker doesn't show up until x number of people suggest/support that location. It's way too dense right now!

I'm a non-biker too (a little embarrassed to say I've never learnt...), and I think having one on Vanderbilt is a great idea, especially since Brooklyn Bike and Board is also right there.
