New Neptune Diner
The signage just went up at the new Neptune Diner on St. Marks and Classon. They also have a " now hiring " sign posted in the window just in case anyone is interested in local employment.

Went inside, met owners (nice family). It's big, it'll have outdoor seating, beer and wine. Menu will be standard diner fare with a smattering of Greek dishes. Opening aimed for the end of the month. 6am for you early birds.

which means not 24-hours. Wonder how late they'll be open. That's when I want diner food....at like 3am.
xlizellx - I just signed a lease on a new apt this past week right around the corner from the diner. The agent said he talked to the owners, and they are planning on being open until 10pm-ish at first, and if that goes well, then until midnight, with plans to go late night or even 24 hours if the business is there.

I just walked by there today and saw the building. I have to say that I'm pretty excited about this. The Astoria location (you can see it on the GCP just before the Triboro/RFK Bridge approach) is pretty good, and is open 24 hours.
Anyone know when they're due to open? The building looks ready to go.

I think that I go to Compare almost every day. As such, I've been by a couple times and overheard guys talking about scheduling, missed appointments, etc - I get the feeling that they were talking about inspections, but it could also be contractor related, I suppose.

It is open indeed. Very nice interior, beautiful garden patio section, and fast & friendly service. I had a very tasty cheese omelette with a generous portion of french fries, rye toast and a bottle of snapple which ran me $10.00 not including tip. Costs me the same at the greek diners on Flatbush and Underhill.
If you show up between 6am and 11am they offer breakfast specials for less. Seems like the cheapest hot breakfast option after 11am is two eggs with home/fries and toast for $4.30. Coffee will run you $1.30 extra.
They deliver and are open from 6am to 10pm for now.
Glad to have them.

I hope this place is not going to be packed all the time, like Chavela's.
I still have not found enough patience to wait for a seat at Chavela's and it has been open for weeks.

we went there for breakfast on sunday
the food was just right and the service was great. so glad to have a real diner close to us - and a place that doesn't make their fries with batter/flour.
they were stroller friendly; and the hostess even hand wiped the high-chair before we sat our little one down in it.
going to try them for dinner this week - if they're good - they'll get a shift of our business from the sushi delivery places.
curious how this will shift Tom's business - I do like going there; but i do prefer a cookie cutter greek diner.

I don't see Neptune attracting Chavela's-like crowds any time soon. They also have a huge patio space, so if you wanted to brave the cold, you could. That's not an option at Chavela's.

I ate there tonight.
It is good comfort diner food. Big menu, with Breakfast served all day.
It is mostly American fare, with a few Mediterranean offerings. While the food is good, don't go there seeking chicken slovaki, gyros and the like, such food is not there.
Diner for 2 was $26, with tip.

Ate here the second day they were open for a late breakfast/early lunch. My GF had pancakes, eggs, and sausage, and I had a tuna melt with fries. Her breakfast fare was good - average diner stuff, which isn't a bad thing at all. The sausage was genuine and definitely the highlight. My fries were good, and the sandwich was decent, but could have been better and warmer. Tom's is still king, but Neptune is, in my opinion, better than Teddy's after only one visit. The waitstaff was really attentive (can't say that for Teddy's), and the space is really clean and inviting. As we sat there we kept looking around saying "I don't feel like I'm in Brooklyn." Definitely has a positive non-urban feel.

Went for a late breakfast. Had a few drinks last night and was looking forward to a great diner solution. The interior was nice - felt like I was transported back to suburban PA - and we were seated immediately with those awesomely huge menus diners are known for.
I ordered a soda, egg salad sandwich, and fries. Husband ordered a cheese omelette with hash browns and coffee.
Drinks came immediately.
And then we waited. And waited. 20 minutes for a sandwich and omelette at a diner?
Food came. Omelette and potatoes got fine reviews - nothing amazing, but good diner food. Fries were awesome. Sandwich was good but had more lettuce than egg salad which was weird.
When the food came, my husband asked for a coffee refill. Waitress told someone else to go get it. It never came. 5 minutes later he flagged down another server who said that the coffee guy was coming around. He never did. 5 minutes after that we caught the waitresses attention and asked again for coffee. She said she'd get it. She did not. A few minutes later my husband stopped another server and asked again. The coffee came. It was a good 15 minutes of actively trying to get a cup of coffee - which at a diner seems insane.
Overall, I am super glad they're here and I look forward to trying some other stuff but I certainly wasn't wowed by the service.

I just had the Fish & Chips special. Verdict: the fish was obviously frozen (sort of like glorified fish sticks), as were the fries. The tartar sauce was also sub par. All in all, it was EXACTLY what I expected. I ordered to go, it took 12 minutes. Now I have a delivery menu.
It's a diner, people.

(not a dinner)I tried the fish and chips as well, out of curiosity. The fish was definitely out of the Gorton's freezer section, but not bad in my opinion. Tartar sauce was a bit too sweet, but the fries were as good as they've been each time I've gotten them. But as you say, it was exactly what I expected. Next time I have an F&C hankerin', I'll probably get it again. It beats walking 20 minutes to Chip Shop, even if Neptune is light years away from Chip Shop in authenticity and quality. I'm thankful for that, because if Chip Shop was next door as well I'd weigh about 300 lbs.

been there twice for breakfast. First time it took over a half hour for the food to come out, we weren't thrilled. second time we sat at the counter and got slightly better service, still took longer than you'd think to get eggs and sausage and toast at a diner... food is typical heavy diner fare, sausage was really tasty and the blueberry pancakes were great. Strawberry milkshake to top it all off too, very good.
if they can improve service, this place will be a new favorite breakfast spot. if it takes 20-30 minutes to get eggs and sausage, not interested.

Had a burger yesterday. It was a decent diner burger. Portions were (typically) large, lots of fries and buns about the diameter of a saucer - a good value if you're in to that sort of thing. If you're looking for a dainty gourmet burger, this isn't the place to look for it. Only minor complaint - I prefer my fries a little more crispy golden brown.

Ask for them well done next time, your only minor complaint will be easily resolved.
