Found Cat: Black White Female — Brooklynian

Found Cat: Black White Female

Found a small-sized black & white cat last night. She was on the north side of Park Place between Franklin & Classon, a little past the shuttle if you're walking East. She's very friendly and had a beat-up flea collar on, but also seems thin and was a bit dirty. Lost deli cat? Lost pet?

I can't keep her, so if someone recognizes her or has leads on a good foster organization, I'm all ears! I'm gonna try to post some "FOUND" posters around the area later tonight.

  • Thanks for helping this lost cat! Unfortunately so many people dump cats this time of year. I found a dumped cat on Monday night so I feel your pain. Sadly, the Crown Heights streets aren't so friendly for these dumps. Hopefully someone will claim him. You can also call 311 and report her as found. Glad she is safe.

  • I'll call 311 later today, thanks for the tip. I just emailed Fido Lost Dog/BK group too, since I sometimes see cats posted on their list.

Fingers crossed that someone recognizes her.

  • Take the plastic flea collar off and check around her neck - is the hair missing? The cheap plastic Hertz Collars often burn the fur off as the med is too strong and it can poison the cat as well, this is common with deli cats and other neglected kitties. There's a nutty mentally ill woman near where I lived who liked to put these collars tightly on the local strays to "claim" them but they weren't hers - so having a collar does not necessarily mean a carer.

However you can also check on Tabby Tracker - you can post her as found as well.

Whatever you do don't take her to the AC&C as they are a high kill shelter.

Try calling local rescues to see if anyone has any space for her if you cant find her owners. This time of year is very busy as it is the end of kitten season. She will need to be blood tested and vaccinated to ensure she is healthy and neutered but this can be done for little to no cost through Toby Project and/or ASPCA's Public Mobile Van's.

Some local shelters you can try calling are:

    BARC:http://www.barcshelter.org/

    Sean Casey: http://www.nyanimalrescue.org/

    Bideawee: http://www.bideawee.org/

    Bobbi & The Strays: http://www.bobbiandthestrays.org/

There are loads more if you look, some of the smaller groups may ask for a donation to cover vetting costs.

  • Don't worry: while she can't stay here (allergies, though I can eat Benadryl for a week for the cause), she'll be leaving for a no-kill shelter or foster situation. A few years ago I took a stray to BARC... here's hoping they (or someone else) has room this time. I'll make some calls tomorrow.

Just listed her on Tabby Tracker, thanks for the idea. No cats of her description were listed.

  • I will add to Alana's list:

    North Shore in NJ

    Kensington Kitties

    Angelica Cats

    Kitty Kind

    ASPCA

    City Critters

  • Thanks so much! I've been in touch with Brooklyn Animal Action-- they've been very very helpful & this little cat will hopefully have a new home soon.
