Seeking source for gently used plastic bags — Brooklynian

Seeking source for gently used plastic bags

I'm wondering if there is a grocery store or other store in the neighborhood that collects plastic bags to be recycled. I'm a teacher and I'll be doing an art project with my students in a few weeks that requires lots of bags. I'd rather reuse bags than simply grab a bunch from a store. Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks!

  • home depot has a load of them next to the customer service return desk. I go to the 1 on 23rd st in the city all the time and the big garbage can thing is full most of the time

  • There is a lot garden on Dekalb avenue near a large school that has a whole bunch of discarded, re-used garbage bags. You should take a walk over there and help yourself.

  • Also the barnes and noble on 7th Ave and 6th St, right in the entryway

  • Brooklyn Freecycle. It's a yahoo group where you can post things you want to give away, or things you want. Someone may have a stash of them. You can sign up online here:

  • Thanks so much for all the great tips!

  • You can have mine. I always stash my bags hoping some of my dog owning friends will relieve them from me. i probably have close to 100. IM me if you're interested.

  • Key Foods on 5th near Sackett has a barrel of bags near the cash registers for recycling. They'd probably let you have as many as you need, its always overflowing.

  • key food 7th ave/carroll st
