Hoodwinked by the Occupy Wall Street Protesters — Brooklynian

Hoodwinked by the Occupy Wall Street Protesters

edited November -1 in Park Slope

Yesterday I go word that Radiohead was throwing a free concert down at Zucotti park for the protesters involved in the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Well, i got down there at noon along with about 200 others hoping to secure the best viewing area. An event organizer promised us that RadioHead should be arriving in an hour and that the concert would commence at 4pm.

Guess what happened?

At 2:40 the same organize addressed the crowd and stated that Radiohead was not coming but that we were free to stay and show our support for Occupy Wall Street. WHAT THE FUDGE?

This is when it dawned on me that were were given the ole switch and bait routine. We were hoodwinked into joining some sort of protest.

Thanks but no thanks and shame on those protesters for pulling this shim sham on Radiohead fans.

  • You should ask for your money back!

  • This was supposedly a free concert. The organizers of this event just made a big mistake. There are over a thousand people down there waiting for a concert and they are taking their anger out on the protesters. This is getting ugly.

The worse thing anyone can do is lie to a loyal fan. We do not take disappointment lightly.

I have a friend who remained and he tells me that radio head fans are being asked to leave by the protesters. WHAT THE FUDGE? Since the disappointed fans are not with then now they are asking that they leave. AMAZING!

  • Spotted just now in local news on Yahoo home page...

Occupy Wall Street Apologizes for Getting 'Hoaxed' By Radiohead Claim

    http://www.dnainfo.com/20110930/manhattan/radiohead-play-surprise-show-at-occupy-wall-street-protesters-say#ixzz1ZTNup6BU

  • This apology is falling on deaf ears. A good portion of the people down there were there to see Radiohead. Imagine the horror and disgust they felt when they realized just like I did that it was a ploy just to increase the numbers down at Wall Street.

I say get ready for some serious backlash out of this. No one likes to be used like a pawn. The organizers of Occupy Wall street took a gamble and it failed miserably. Radiohead fans are already blogging about this and the word on the internet is that this protest down at wall street is a joke.

Things do not bode well for these protesters. I personally now hope they get swept out of there by the gestapo police.

  • Our world is falling to pieces and y'all get all pissy about a concert...please.

  • I saw that early in the day and I also saw a report from big news outlets early that Radiohead's agent (or whoever books them/makes press releases) said it was a lie.

  • PISSY? Excuse me! It is these morons down at Wall street lying through their teeth. They are so desperate for support that they are now resorting to fabricating lies in order to attract people. I suspect that this weekend they will say that they have a free circus so that families will flock down to their event and thus be counted as supporters.

We have every right to be mad at this people. They basically lied to die hard fans and then they shooed us away like bees. I am not having it. The fans of Radiohead are not having it as can be witnessed by all the blogs set on fire against the Occupy Wall Street organizers

Before this I could give a rats ass about what they were protesting about. To be honest I still do not know what they are protesting for but now they have gotten the attention of Radioheads and lets just say that we are not on their side.

    This is just sad.

A hoaxer was able to convince members of Occupy Wall Street to joyously state the band Radio Head would perform.

They took the bait and now look even less credible.

How long will it be before a more destructive campaign is launched? For example, it should not take long for a group of six (6) college age John Birch Society members to figure out they could infiltrate the group this weekend.

They could then mix with the crowd, and be drunken pricks to the police on Sunday. The police would respond in kind. It would all be caught on video. The image of the protesters as "clueless but harmless" would be destroyed.

If they have an ability to learn, the folks in Occupy Wall Street will realize that leaderless consensus doesn't work, and get some help from established organizations ...quickly.

  • Thank you, Whynot.

I could not have said it any better.

While I was down there I did notice one constant: IT WAS A MESS.

These protesters who are occupying the park are destroying it. There is trash and cardboard everywhere. The sanitary conditions are bordering on deplorable. The police need to get them out of there sooner than later.

  • Haha why would you subject yourself to that kind of volatile situation I don't care WHO is playing it could be lord jesus himself.

  • News story is for real.

    Thread starter is not, obviously.

  • Slope, if you are not a fan of Radiohead I do not expect you to understand. Lets just say that for a fellow like me a free concert could not be turned down. Hell, I left early from work for this and look where that got me.

  • Count-

    You are totally correct.

However, sometimes it is fun letting them believe they are smart than us and then dashing their hopes.

  • Well... I have an idea. If a troll happens to present an issue or idea that is interesting then someone should just start a l new thread and start a discussion on the topic. Chances are the troll won't post on that thread and some interesting stuff might be said.

  • This topic is already being discussed elsewhere.

Perhaps we could just use this thread to talk about the sun going down in the west?

  • :-({|= :-({|=

  • Tomorrow swarms of U2 fans will decry lack of rooftop show as the next step in Operation: Where The Geeks Have No Name.

And they will work their way through, group following by group following until they have won.

  • The fact remains that organizers of this event shot themselves in the foot. Too many people pissed off.

Most New Yorkers are now starting to hate these people and with good reason. Support is actually decreasing.

I predict on the first good chilly night these individuals from coddled lifestyles will scurry on home and call it quits.

Mother nature is the great equalizer.

Here's my favorite version. It has George Bush

  • Folks, we've already got a robust thread on the Wall Street occupation going, so I'm going to lock this one and direct everyone to continue the conversation about the occupation, hoaxes, dirty protesters and bankers here. Thanks
