Jewelry Repair
I have 3 necklaces with broken chains. None of them are super expensive/heirlooms/vintage, but I do like them and would like to get the chain repaired or replaced. Any recommendations of where I can get this done at a reasonable price?
I did search but the most recent relevant posts were about 3 or 5 years old.
Thanks for your help!

Facets? They restrung a pearl necklace for me a few years ago. I think the Claypot does repairs as well.

I think you're way north but I noticed that the cheesy jewelry store (complete with neon signage for jewelry repair) on 5th and 11th or 12th on the west corner may be able to help.

Yeah my tip will probably not be the most helpful if you are looking for a place in the Slope, but I go to a place on Flatbush ave. Caddy corner to the Duane Reade.
It's usually pretty cheap. The place across the street next door to the Pool Hall is a scam. I took some earrings there to replace the hinges, cause they were too heavy and the guy totally ripped me off.
But the place I am talking about is fairly cheap. I don't know how nice you're jewelry is and I only mention that because they seem to charge random prices based on whoever thinks has a lot of money. Before they only charged me like $5 to fix some costume jewelry.
I think the cross street is Sterling. It's a shoe repair / jewelry shop.

Wow.. Scarlett if you do use the scuzy place on 5th and it works out let me know. I have some old (60 year old) costume things from my mother that have sentimental value for me but are broken because I can't see investing any major money to make them workable. If you try and have a good experience I would love to know about it.

Ah Nomad, OP if you do the place on 5th and it a good experience let me know!

I like the jewelry store on 7th Avenue & 8th Street (he's fixed watch chains for me) - but note, they are orthodox so they are closed on Saturdays (and there's a bunch of holidays coming up so they will be closed as well). The "scuzzy" place on 5th seems to open when they feel like it - I found they don't have regular hours.

i've had the opposite experience w. that place on 7th ave and 8th. it took them a very long time to do a really poor job (mangled a ring).

I also have some necklaces that need work. When I went to the Clay Pot a while back, they said they don't do most stuff in house and gave me the card of a place in Manhattan that they use.

Unfortunately, I don't live in your area. My hobby is jewelry making and I often repair and remake stuff for my friends. So maybe you should seek for someone who just likes this and doesn't take much money for this work;)

I just popped into the place on 5th and 12th with 2 pairs of broken costume earrings and they fixed them right up- reattached beads- at no cost. I asked about necklaces and they said broken chains can be fixed for about $10 and restrings priced by the inch, maybe $40.

Thanks all, for your suggestions! As I live closer to the North side, I might start at the place on Flatbush Jenee mentioned, and work my way down 5th Ave. I'll let you know what happens.

To let you all know. I took them to Facets. I got 2 chains (1 gold, 1 silver) soldered. It cost $60 and I wish I'd schlepped down to the place on 5th & 12th Scarlett recommended. Seemed expensive to me. Thought I could buy a silver chain for about $20!
Oh well, you live and learn....
