Al di La Coming to Teddy's — Brooklynian

Al di La Coming to Teddy's

Eee!

Looks like those rumors of Teddy's giving up the ghost were not far off. This is awesome, awesome news for the neighborhood. Even if they call Teddy's Crown Heights. Should be open by December, according to the article.

  • WOW! Al di La is amazing, I just love them, this is tremendously good news for Wash Ave!

  • Those Slope people may never see my dining $ again.

  • ... And a McDonald's may move into Love's Liquors on the corner. Bwahahaha!

  • God-

Capt Morgan would kick Ronald McDonalds butt if he tried that.

  • Wow that's bad news to me.

  • I just ordered chicken souvlaki, Teddy is exiting and doing so with grace. What a man! and thanks for for your work. You will be missed and enjoy your family! short and sweet. The next guy is better because of you.

When his doors open I will be there to order, simply because of association. Good luck and good health to you and yours

  • As somewhat regulars, we asked when he would be closing and congratulated him on finding a buyer.

Teddy says he will be closing in about a month.

  • If a stand alone McCafé tries to take out Love Liquor a Charbucks...uhm I mean Starbucks may try to outbid them.

  • Where's the link about McDonalds?

  • Hatemail, I have long suspected God has an odd sense of humor.

BTW, Teddy told me he has opened six restaurants over the course of his career, and that he may retire after this adventure.

...but he is not sure what he will do with himself when not running a restaurant, so time will tell.

  • wow, teddy's a great guy and his food was always good. i wish him well.

    but al di la? amazing.

  • Bummer. I will be sad to see Teddy's go. They had the best lamb ever.

  • as far as i know, there are no other places nearby for good greek food. does neptune have greek as well as diner fare?

  • Neptune has very few Greek items, it is a traditional American diner.

...which has made my mind wonder if Franklin Ave is ready for a small, cheap,take-out gyro/falafel place.

It would complement the neighborhood's present offerings (pizza, burgers, Carib, and Mexican), and likely be supported.

Salad will soon arrive on Franklin.

At this point there seems to be very few opportunities left in take out food.

  • Zaytoon's is Mediterranean...

  • Zaytoon's lamb wasnt as good as Teddy's lamb. Though Zaytoons was cheaper. Me still sad.

  • i'm talking about spanokopita, greek salad, tzatziki, grape leaves, taramasalata, lemon potatoes... i don't know another place closer than astoria to get this stuff. this is what's sad.

When I order from Zaytoons I get spinach pie, greek salad, and grape leaves. No, it's not Queens good, but it's cheap and not bad.

it's not bad, but it ain't spanokopita.

(and i've been unimpressed by the couscous.)

  • is this the end? i've been too lazy to walk over there, but i've tried calling last night and tonight and get no answer. i was hoping for one more spanokopita.

    ??? ????????? ????, teddy!

  • Confirmed: Steel gate down. No one inside.

Strangely, there is no "we thank you for you business, but are now closed forever" sign.

  • lights on, doors open, contractor van out front.. appears to be going through renovations.

I bet some random Teddy would love to have that sign(s) in his back yard....

  • We've got a few Greek restaurants in Park Slope. They may not be Astoria, but they have most or all of the dishes you mentioned.

The contractors seem like they have been in there since the moment Teddy left.

  • Went to Al Di La itself last night. The food was excellent, and the prices were extremely reasonable (including the wine, which had less than the customary mark-up).

Before we thought we had to go to Manhattan for Italian food of this quality -- very much looking forward to their offering closer by!

  • Roasted pork shoulder sandwiches....it’s going to be a little bit more relaxed....
