  • take my advice: go park it in windsor terrace and call 7th ave car service to come get you.

on sundays the parking locks up before dinnertime. weekends are easier, esp in summer. fri/sat after 10 try down near the movie theater: people see the late show then go home.

12:30 in the afternoon, not at night. I had to stay home from work to meet the car delivery guy.

It frightens me that everyone thinks it is so impossible to find a space at night.... I see myself in the garage before the end of the week.

Is there no street cleaning in WT? I'm not so crazy about the idea of having to use a car service to go get my car... I could've stayed with the zipcar for that kind of hassle.

yup, but when you get that giant 8x10 green neon sticker on your car that takes 4 hours to remove, you'll be mighty angry.

some hot water and a good razer blade scarper ( $3.50 at Lowes) and it'll be off in 2 minutes

There is ASS parking in WT. It's not so easy to park here either (plus, we have enough of our own cars, thankyouverymuch!)
  • brooklynpotter wrote: actually, there are streets in WT where you never have to move your car.
Sh!, keep it down please. The only time I have to drive more than a block for parking is Sunday afternoon on a really nice day when everyone is in the park.

Other than that, try street parking by Ft Hamilton "F" train and take it back if you don't need the car that much, YOu got an unlimited Metro Card? won't cost you anything.
  • On a related note: how safe is street parking in the Slope? I can think of a few times that I've seen shattered glass on the street. Are there certain blocks that are sketchier than others? Anyone park on Plaza Street?
  • OK so as I read this it sounds like you just use the car on week ends and take public transport to and from work. What about those open air lots by the Brooklyn Bridge? We have friends that live in the Heights and pay under $200 month you can get there via the High St (A,C) or York (F) trains. Take a car service a couple of times a week and its still less than you pay for parking by your house.

I think that PPW itself is a bit schetchy to park on because if somebody smashes your window they can run right into the park.

Been here 9 years and (knock wood) no problems other than random little bumps (since people often parallel park by feel!)
  • Well, after a couple of weeks of relatively hassle-free street parking, we ran up agains the wall last night. I was parked on a Thursday street and tried to move my car into a Mon/Tues spot. I drove around for 40 min looking... every block from Berkeley to 3rd St, 4th Ave to 8th Ave. Not a single space. I ended up putting it right back into a Thursday spot. My husband went out this morning at 7am to try again and ended up putting it into a garage 45 min later after finding zero spaces.

This is exactly what I feared would eventually happen... the bad news is that all the garages in North Slope are full!

I'll repeat my plea: if anyone knows of a good, cheap lot in the slope, please drop me a line!
  • Have you looked at postings in Key Foods, and other local places that have bulletin boards? I've seen some postings by me, but they are too far for you.
