I need two people to carry a very heavy sofa bed out of my apartment, down two flights and onto the street next week. I’ve tried my favorite craigslist mover but they have a 2 hour plus truck limit and the job is not one I’m willing to pay $150 for! Does anyone know of any local muscle? Could be done any time during the day on Friday the 28th. Would rather have a personal recommendation from a known poster on this board than open up the door to a craigslist respondent. Thank you micro-hive!

    Get a quote via phone or email from College Educated Movers . I've used them three times and was quite happy each time.

    Thanks Booklaw. I tried them and they will do it for $95. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind (and wallet)around the idea of paying over $100 (with tip) to get this couch out of here. Can't donate it because of the "bed" in sofabed. Tempted to try to dismantle it so that we can carry it out ourselves... Where's a strapping young lad when you need one?

    Ah, you are throwing it out!

    In that case, dismantling it is the way to go. To get it to down to pieces of the size one person could move, I would use a grinder for the metal parts, A jig saw for the wood frame, Wrenches for where the metal attaches to the wood.

    You'd end up with about 6 pieces. You'd need to clean up wood and metal dust.

    It would take about 2 hours. You'd be responsible for moving the pieces down the stairs to the curb on trash day.

    I would earn $65.

    Also, freecycle. You might find someone who wants it and is willing to carry it.
