Brick oven pizza on Franklin Avenue?

The service is pretty bad at this place, but I expect that to improve if they get enough business. Better business will mean better tips which will bring better staff.
I'm still not convinced Franklin Ave can support a place of this size with their prices.

You guys are pretty harsh on a place that just opened. my take:
The space is really nice. There are multiple levels and areas. When this place fills up its gonna have a good vibe. There is also a separate bar area, which will be nice once they get their license.
We ordered two pies. crimini and fennel sausage, and soprosata picante. both came out very quickly and were cooked perfect. The crust was deliciously blistered.
The service was great! very attentive. Also there were a ton of servers, and everyone from the cooks to the hostess thanked us on our way out.
Are the prices high? If they are it's only by a dollar. This is the type of pizza place I like, and I think the prices are on par with the motorinos, saraghinas, etc.
Only complaint--the have the wrong salt in the salt shakers. Its like popcorn salt--ultra fine. and when you pour it it streams out and goes all over the place.
Anyways, I have wanted a place like this to open in our neighborhood for 5 years. I am excited it is here, and I will be going regularly.

You're right, we are critical of the place, but the attention should be interpreted as a compliment. I hope the place makes it. The interior is impressive and it would be a good thing for Franklin Ave to see it filled on a regular basis.

At a minimum, I hope it's existence will make the lines at Chavela's shorter.

My husband and I had dinner here last week--it was 7:30 on a Tuesday and more than half the tables were occupied. The space is warm and inviting and we immediately noticed how friendly and attentive the staff is, from the hostess to the servers and runners.
We both have perfect vision, but we struggled to read our menus by the dim light (candlelight is lovely, but not the best menu-reading light). We started with a Bibb salad and spinach salad--both were wonderful, with heaps of creamy cheese (bleu on the Bibb; goat on the spinach).
Then, we shared the artichoke and pancetta pizza. It was perfectly hot and gooey, with a crisp crust and huge chunks of artichoke. Incredibly delicious, though (sadly) a bit greasier than I'd expected. I would have blotted it with my napkin, were it made of paper and not cloth. Still, the pizza was extremely good and we polished it off easily.
We finished with a mix of chocolate, hazelnut and dulce de leche gelato, which was rich, creamy and oh-so indulgent.
All in all, we had a great experience and will be back soon. We do hope they add soup now that winter's almost here. Perhaps a nice, piping hot bowl of minestrone before your pizza? YUM!

The Mrs and I made it a point to eat here tonight, before it becomes mobbed as result of getting it's liquor lic.
We concur: This place is yummy. We like it more than Amorina (sp?) on Vanderbilt, but I will miss their lasagna.
PS. The waitress stated they expect to receive the alcohol license in the mail THIS WEEK.

Update: They have their liquor license. The bar opens on Friday.

Yup. Might be a place to take the parents before they leave....

very solid, decent pizzas tonight. one thing i didn't know which our server told us was that the oven gets so hot that they can make a pie in 90 seconds.
got a dogfish head ipa for $7. agree with some that prices for franklin are sorta high.

Had dinner there last night. Two adults, two apps, two pizzas, one drink, one soda $60. Food was good and plentiful. We probably could have split one pizza if we had been slightly less hungry. I thought it was a little pricy for Franklin Avenue, but it was a good meal and nice atmosphere.
My only complaint was that it was too dark to read the menu. When I need to use the candle at the table so I can see what there is to order you need to turn the lights up! It seems however that is becoming a thing on Franklin. Last time I was in Franklin Park, I could barely see in front of my face, Crown Inn is so dark, you can't see who is inside from the street, and the Thai place is always pitch black even during the day.

My GF and I recently tried Barboncino's for the first time. Must say we came away very impressed. Two beers, the Neapolitan meatball appetizer, sopressata picante pie, and the gelato dessert. It all came out to about $43 before tip.
The meatballs were great. I think we got four of them on the plate. Awesomely seasoned, great homemade sauce, and a decent portion. The pizza was equally great. The crust was done perfectly and the flavors of the fresh ingredients blended incredibly well. I love garlic, but for those who aren't big garlic fans, you might want to be weary -- there's a lot on there. We shared the gelato dessert, which was three scoops of your pick of flavors. Each was delicious. I personally loved the atmosphere, but I can see how it could be too dim for some tastes. Definitely going back soon.

Soon to offer.... BRUNCH on weekends.
I think it is reasonable to expect rave reviews as well.

What's the deal with no delivery?? I've been ordering from Peetzaaz but prefer the menu at Barboncino. They would have netted a ton of dough from my house by now if they had delivery.

Fast forward to Sept 23, 2013.
This place has now been open so long that their liquor lic is up for renewal.
The SLA & Sidewalk Café Review Committee will meet on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 6:30 PM at CNR-Center Light Health Care Center, which is located at 727 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY (between Park and Prospect Places).
