  • Whynot,

Are you posts specifically designed to wander off topic and contribute inaccurate information or is that just a by-product of you liking to hear yourself talk?

  • DR-

Whoa, your version of Brooklynian talks!? That is so cool.

  • What? Huh? Pardon?

I'm sure you get that a lot whynot.. but I have no idea what you're talking about - rarely do.

  • Actually, very few people are polite enough to say "pardon".

It's really strange to me how differently brooklyian and FIPS handled this story.

Brooklyninan quickly jumped to, what I think we can all agree on now, are flat out wrong assumptions about gunshots. The thread is littered with comments like "assuming they were gunshots". What a FOX Newsistic way to assert a falsehood without the burden of standing beside it.

While Brooklynian does maintain a level of intelligence and rational thought it is far out shadowed by some sort of adult onset angst. The whole 911 conversation mixed with the "drunk shots gun at meteor" is comical on the surface, but sadly inward looking and isolationist.

The FIPS article/comments on the other hand are accurate. They are correct. Simple. And appreciated.

Read the FIPS thread and it looks like the major difference is that someone on that board was actually on the same block as the fireworks and able to respond to the question while everyone here was far enough away to say "that's what it sounded like to me, as well" and no one posted with any information that contradicted those views. It sounded like gunshots to the people who posted here. Why that is a reflection of "adult onset angst" as opposed to the result of the way sound travels over some distance is beyond me.

  • Why that is a reflection of "adult onset angst" as opposed to the result of the way sound travels over some distance is beyond me.

    Not my problem.

  • "Angst, adult onset" is not listed in the DSM IV as a recognized condition on Axis I even as a "V Code", so a licensed mental health practitioner can not legally diagnose it or treat it. The DSM V will be out soon. Maybe it will be in there.

However, I think we are getting off topic. Does anyone know when Park Slope is expect to have late night fire works again?

....are they going to have fireworks again on New Years Eve?

  • so a licensed mental health practitioner

That explains everything... I won't bother you anymore. Take care... keep up the good work.

  • You are not going to help me out regarding the fireworks?

All this jabber, and I can't find out when people will be woken up again?

  • Caused by the internet?

Do you think the people writing the DSM V are ready to allow people to diagnose based on something that has only been around for 10 years?

Mama, until pretty recently the DSM classified homosexuality as a disease, and there have been perfectly functional homosexual people since the beginning of humanity.

I do not think it is reasonable to expect them to create a diagnosis as a result of the internet, not even an Axis II personality disorder.

We are supposed to be talking about fireworks!

  • I am still not convinced this wasn't a meteor, or aliens.

Until we have more evidence, we can't rule either out.

PARK SLOPE WTF: DID GUNSHOTS RING OUT ON MONDAY NIGHT?

Whoa, no need to wait for New Years. Veterans Day it is.

  • OQ, you beat me to it!

  • Looks like our pyro person was at it again. Heard 5 reports starting at 4am.

  • Yep, went off at 4 in the morning. About 5, spaced a minute or so apart. I saw them break in the sky. Definitely being set off at the corner of 7th ave and 12th street.

  • I hope you people call the cops this time!!!

  • I actually saw this person just as he was setting off his last bottle rocket from a rooftop of a building on 11th St, just off of 7th Ave. I thought of calling the cops but at 4am, finding their precinct number, and making the call seemed like too much to handle :-)

This dude was pretty bizarre. Could only see his silhoutte as he paced about the rooftop in the wind driven rain after he set the last one off.

Called the precinct this morning, they said next time, to go ahead and call 911, they deem fireworks an "emergency". I wasn't aware of that.

  • Now that we have a general vicinity of where these fireworks are going off, next time it goes off I'll be calling 911.

  • Suggestion... Put the number of your local precinct in your cell phone and use it next time. Here is another suggestion for emergency.. have the number of Hatzalah Ambulance service in your cell phone for that kind of emergency. Do 911 first and them right after and I will guarantee Hatzalah will arrive first.. in brooklyn or Manhattan. And you don't need to be Jewish to call them.
