Pratt post office reopening soon — Brooklynian

Pratt post office reopening soon

  • Good, there's probably been a distinct lack of getting packages lost in a kafkaesque maze of indifference.

  • Was it possible for the Post Office become less efficient than before its renovation? Apparently. With the exception of one tall, thin, soft-spoken, black man about 60, the staff must be hired based on their ability to humiliate customers. I have seen several people cry. "Did you fill out form gq70uv and 09ir?" "Yes, and I have copies right here. You, and it was you (I remember) told me there would be no problem for you to hold my mail for two weeks while I moved." "We have no record of that." "Well, where is my mail." "We probably threw it out." I almost cried in sympathy.

Yesterday, after waiting for two packages to be delivered (a plant and one containing beneficial insects) I was notified by the sellers that they had been returned. I did not receive a SINGLE notice, not one, much less a package (and I've been home recovering from surgery.) As the plant and insects died, I must pay for them.

My neighbors believe there is general package theft at the Post Office and have told me of clothing disappearing. I would like to think it is just hinky mismanagement of the highest degree. But it is so bad that if I sell my house for another, I will move into a different Post Office district.

  • I was once told this is a training post office, which helps explain (but not excuse) why it is one of the worst POs in the city.
