Couch Cushion Cleaning

Does anyone have any experience with couch cushion cleaning? The dry cleaners on underhill and on vanderbilt won't do ours because they won't fit in the machines. There are some places online that will come and steam clean, but they are a bit pricey ($70). Anyone know of other options? We took the slip covers to be cleaned, but there's still a bit of pee on the cushions themselves.

  • Ugh I feel your pain. My cat did this to our couch. I washed the slip cover myself and then the foam insert I soaked in a tub with a little wtaer, detergent and fabric softener. Then I would step on it to drain the water. I repeated the water rinse 2 more times to get the soap and water out. It took a day for the cushions to dry but it seemed to work as I don't smell anything.

Just and FYI cats tend to repeat certain behaviors so I purchased a waterproof mattress pad to cover my couch so if it happens again I don't have to go through the cleaning process.

I was also going to try those carpet cleaners you can rent at key food - they have the upholstery attachment but so far it hasn't happened again.

    Good luck.

  • Funny, we just had this problem. Get this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Miracle-Just-Urine-Destroyer/dp/B003I5QRJ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321757215&sr=8-1

It saved our couch. And that cat is now exiled more or less permanently to the basement -- yes, they will do it again.

  • Luckily child pee is not as concetrated as cat pee - we have cat problems and go through nature's miracle by the gallon. Right after I posted, I tried a little, and it seems to have gotten rid of the smell. We're going to rent a steam cleaner and give that a try too.
