Dads get to do manly stuff, like use their intellect.

Remember, Chabad is a hasidic organization, presumably with an 19th century Eastern European view of men and women's respective roles.

So it isn't just a "Jewish twist"... it's a Hasidic Jewish twist.

I'm taken aback by the ignorant and hateful replies in this thread. The OP did not deserve it and the replies betray an ugliness that says far more about them than the OP or Chabad. Sheesh.

It's something I pay close attention to.

For the most part their views and treatment of women is shameful and has no place in modern society. Especially in the more conservative Satmar sect.

I have rather surprised by the responses myself. And I'm usually down with a good ole' fem rights blasting. I blame these programs on boredom and helicopter parenting.

Yes, of course both parents should put in equal work, but if they are both in a work place equally as much, then the nanny is raising the kids. These classes occur during the day.

Typically Dad made more than mom, so he worked and she stayed home with the child. Mom also has the built in food system. These days you have more non-traditional families with stay at home dads, two dads, two moms, or other arrangements. These programs have started to get different names like Parent'N'Me, or just Toddler class etc. This has only happened recently. A lot are still called Mommy'N'Me classes even outside the hasidic communities.

Yes, the hasidic community may never re-name classes to suit the growing trend of dad staying home with baby. I guess that could be something to harass them over. Personally I would rather harass them over women being treated as walking uteruses.

My thought on the initial post was I'm looking forward to being able to gather with other women who may or may not be moms and have a glass of wine and adult conversation. Based on what I've seen happen to women friends after they have a child though, you may have the wine, but all other discussion leads directly to their kids. In about a week plus I will be having my baby shower/good-bye party. So, I'm partially saying good-bye to adult conversation, and probably a number of my friends for a little while while I adjust to the new life as I know it.
