  • A fake record store that sells decent dime bags. When the last one closed, it was sad, very sad.
  • bakery, butcher, & a clean grocery store on Washington. that would really be great....
  • Carnivore wrote: [quote=Candicissima]The Radio Shack on Flatbush and Atlantic isn't that far. And the Key Food on Flatbush is open until midnight. I'm actually okay with knowing that the Pathmark is 24 hours and if I'm bored and really need to wander for some milk and/or cookies at 3am, I can make an trek out of it.
I actually didn't realize that the Pathmark is open 24 hours. That's good to know. The Key Food usually seems like they're shutting down before 12 though. Are they really always open until midnight?

Do you know if the Bakery is 24 hrs too?
  • Wow, this thread is so old, it's from before the Key Food on Flatbush was open 24 hours!

It deserves a bump, though. It's always nice to see Jack make an ass of himself.

Not that I miss it.
  • This is a really interesting and useful thread, and I'm glad that it's been resurrected, although the middle fifty or so messages are pretty far off-topic. Three improvements to existing businesses are on my wish list: that the Chinese place on Underhill at St. John's take down its bullet-proof glass (I think the neighborhood's safe enough for them to chance it); that the grocery (I won't call it a bodega, for fear of resurrecting another, less-useful thread) on Underhill at Sterling stay open an hour or two later than it does; and that the grocery on Underhill at St. John's fix up or take down its decrepit sign (the one that once said "Associated"), which makes it seem like a dump, when it's not.
  • I'm the of king of raising dead threads :P. damn it some how i miss this one.

hmm what do i want to see. how bout a nice 24 hr food joint. not diners though never like em. a cool huge book store, arcade, bbq place, game shop, and more time in the world to count all the other stuff i want to see.
  • Subject: what my hood needs

a person that will bring me great smoke
a decent grocery store. the met food on fulton is the worst place i've ever been.
an uncle louie g's (sorry guys i don't give a shit if that fat lard drives a hummer he's a laughing stock)
    a great brunch place
    a great mexican place
    a great diner
someone that will come by and pick up the chicken bones in my hood.
  • I wish the area would have more crime, more graffiti, more corner kids, more homeless and prostitutes, and more abandoned buildings, with fewer cafes, restaurants, police, luxury condos, grocery stores, and services like cable tv and cell phone coverage. That way we could have affordable housing, and evil gentrifiers would be gone so that we could revel in our neighborhood's urban grit.
  • Cinema (At Atlantic Center)
Late night open grocery store (close to where I live)
A dive bar (not too close to where I live)
    An alternative to Cablevision/Optimum online

Old post - there was a place on Park and Carlton, Sam's bbq & veg, but it has since closed.

  • I wish every neighborhood didn't have to have a nickname that rhymed with soho.
  • Kate wrote: I want a quality record/music store.
Yes! But one with second hand vinyl.

And an army/navy store with better selection than Triangle.

And a cemetary that allows leisure cycling!!

    Grr.

Is Mr Falafel the best option now? Alas.

I'd advocate a discontinuation of the use of emoticons.

I vote AW gets a free pass on matters emoticonical, grammatical, and stylistic. The rest of you: lift your game -- the green ink brigade is watching you.
  • I'd like a GOOD soul food resturant - not like Silvia's up in Harlem. What a salt lick- yuck.

More Mom and Pop shops - no more Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, etc. this place is beginning to look alot like Mahattan (cold, yuppified, and just down right bland).

Some sort of community center or YWCA.

And I'll second/third a 24-hour dinner. One of those cool obnoxiously big Greek joints :)
  • Maybe I'm the only corny one here, but I really like trivia/bingo nights at bars. I wish one of the local ones would host so I wouldn't have to travel so far for it!

You know, he's gonna do it -- doesn't matter whether he's given a free pass on it or not.
  • so where can a gal play bingo around here?
  • madamefoo55 wrote: so where can a gal play bingo around here?
I bet you could get a bingo night going at Freddy's if there was enough demand for it. After all, they had a frickin' D&D night!:lol::lol:
  • I'll be glad to spearhead the operation!!!

    anyone else interested?
  • Cupcake wrote: Did the "wishing" idea come from last week's This American Life? Just curious.

I wish for a good Used Book Store.

And [wait for it] a Cupcake Bakery.
    Where is Cupcake? Wish granted!

I think there's spme kind of law against "gaming" in bars. I remember being hassled as a teenager for playing Rummy 500 in a bar in Brooklyn Heights (note, not for being a teenager drinking in a bar). It seemed like just pulling out a deck of cards was a red flag for the bartender.

Anyone know anything about this? I suspect if such a law exists, it's about gambling rather than actual card-playing. I don't know how (or why) you'd play bingo without playing for money (for street cred?).
