Do you recognise this thief?
Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying the holidays.
Last Saturday 12/17, at around 8:10pm, this man was buzzed into my building by one of the residents (they were having a party and were not vigilant about who they were letting in).
He proceeded to enter the garage to steal a bike, not realizing that the door to the garage locked behind him (it's a glass door with a keypad). In order to escape, he broke the glass door.
We have multiple cameras in the garage, lobby and front door, and have many images of him stealing the bike and then breaking the door and leaving.
If you recognize this man, or have any information, please let me know!
The police are/were involved, but when we called the 77th precinct on Monday to get a case number, we were very kindly told the case was closed. So I'm not expecting the police to do anything unless we hand them the info on a silver platter.
I think I might post flyers of this guy's face all over the neighborhood...

It would be helpful to have an idea of where this took place, like a street with the cross streets, not necessarily your address.
Hopefully this is a lesson to the party hosts to not be so careless about letting people into your building.

If we have any questions, how can we contact you?

This took place on Pacific between Washington and Grand.
katecast, feel free to PM me.
Thanks!

Good thing he only wanted to steal stuff and wasn't a rapist.

please do put up wanted pictures like the old west!!!

Have you told the police that you have clear photo images of the thief? Maybe if you push the matter, they might pursue it or have you come down to look at some mug shots. This seems too obvious to let go.

Mamacita, agreed. Although it's a sad day when breaking and entering (literally, just not in that order) and stealing are considered not a big deal. We were "lucky" that the damage was relatively minor.
Update: we received a call from a detective today, and it seems that the front desk person at 77th misspoke. The case wasn't closed, it just hadn't been opened yet and so did not have a case number when we called. We're dropping off the images tomorrow and will take it from there.
If the police have nothing to offer, I will for sure plaster his face all over town. Public shaming is totally the way to go, especially since the criminal was smart enough to get himself locked in the garage.
inpixels, that wanted poster generator is awesome. I think it'll make the perp look too cool though!
