Good Morning to All My Friends....
Well, if all those Domesday (MAYAN) Predictions are true, then The World would end a year from yesterday and we shouldn't be here a year from today....Now, honestly, I find this one interesting for a few reasons...1 - besides the Mayan, other ancient peoples, from different times and different places, have also concluded that Dec.21,2012 will be the end.
2 - Like everything else, the earth (and life in general) runs in patterns...If you look hard enough, you can probably find a pattern or cycle for everything. Some scientist say we are in a cycle now of the warming of the planet-Global warming and we all have heard a million times already what that may do to us. But also, and this is fact, we are also entering a time of increase solar activity( solar flares and storms from the sun. Also a natural cycle and also potentially very deadly to our fragile home planet.
3 - And if all that isn't enough...There will also be a galactic event(Another Fact) where on 12/21/2012, the Sun will be in the center of the Milky Way...And Who the heck knows what that is going to do...!
the only Problem I have with all of this stuff is, that if I am right about all this and the world does end next year on dec. 21st....I just will not be able to brag "I WAS RIGHT" about all this crap on Dec. 22nd....LOL
.......ANYWAY......
Today, We celebrate SANTA & His Helpers.....Enjoy

Joe, I thought the world HAD ended after the folowing events:
1941-Mickey Owen dropped the ball and the Yankees went on to win the World Series against the Dodgers.
1941- The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.(They were mad also that Owens dropped the ball)
1957- When I got drafted!!!
1958-When the Dodgers moved to L.A. (That bum O'Malley)
1959- When Nabisco moved from Manhatten to FairLawn NJ. I came ot of the service and my job was a million miles from Brooklyn.
1960- When I got married.
1997- When I moved to Florida
2010- Our 50th Anniversary
But the world (and I) survived theses momentous events... :santa: -
HI ANNA.. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU & YOURS.. A HEALTHY &
SAFE NEW YEAR, TOO..XX -

Joe, The Bobby Thompson cheap home run in the mis-shaped Polo Grounds is something I have blanked out of my mind. That and Leo Durocher leaving the Dodgers and going over to the Giants. Too sore to keep in the memory banks.... :santa:

Warren....AMEN. By the way, My DAD was a Big Brooklyn Dodger Fan. He always told us stories about the Dodgers, The Games , And Ebbets Field. What we didn't know as kids, was how much knowledge and Dodger History he had in his head. After He & my Mom retired and moved to Jersey,He went to a baseball card show and got around to talking to a couple of guys, who also were Dodger fans about the old days. They talked for over 2 hours, trading stories and memories.A friendship was forged that night between the 3 men that lasted up until my Dad Died in 2001. My Father and the other 2 Men - Joe Pignatano(a former MLB Player & Coach) and the other was a sports writer for the Asbury Park Press(sorry, but I can't remember his name),would keep in touch and talk Baseball. The Sports writer valued and appreciated my Dad's memories of "days long gone", would even call him up at home to verified his facts & figures whenever he wrote a story(ie,Jackie Robinsons 1st Game) about the Dodgers. My Dad was at the 1st game Jackie played in Ebbets Field...So, long story short, There were many a day & night, I witness as a child,a Broken Hearted Brooklyn Dodger Fan. Warren, I am going to prepare a special "Slide show" for you on the Dodgers & some of the stuff I have from him after his death....Stay Tune.

WARREN....THIS IS FOR YOU and ALL The OTHER BROOKLYN DODGER FANS Who May Read The Blog....
...In This Slide show, you will see a picture of my dad in his "BUMS" get up, a Photo of my Dad & Leo D, a Back page from the Daily news of a "Happy Fan"(MY DAD) running onto the field to celebrate a victory, a hand written letter from Carl Erskine to my father - after a Dodger home game, my Dad & a friend noticed 2 elderly people struggling to get a cab on Flatbush Ave. He asked where they were going and offered them a ride home to bay ridge. It turned out that the old couple were the parents of Dodger Pitcher Carl Erskine - Thanking Him for the ride home of his parents. There are photos of 100 autograph Baseballs - All B'klyn Dodgers Players - that my Dad got over the Years. I have these baseballs now. There are pictures and other stuff he had in his Garage, it was a sort of make shift shrine he set up for his Dodgers. You will also see a newspaper article that appeared in The Asbury Park Press, written by his Sports Writer Friend,on my Dad and his collection at the time, I think it was 1998. And Finally, a Photo of a "Irate Fan" who didn't like the umpires call and let him know it. The Fan was a guy my dad knew from the neighborhood, who , so it was said, had placed a large wager on the game and a little upset at the outcome of the game.
All of these memories of my Dad are very Dear to me to say the lease, and it makes me feel good to share them with someone who appreciates them as much as my father did....
...SO, ENJOY...

Joe, The Dodger slide show is fantastic. My Mother was a Dodger fan as well. I remember one night in particular when the Dodgers were playing St Louis a twi-night doubleheader. (In those days you just paid one admission for both games.) My Mother made up a big bag of Sandwiches on rolls. Real hard rolls from Brooklyn. Can not really get them here. Mom and my Father went out to Ebbets and got seated. The rest of us (My two Brothers & I) came directly from work and met my parents there. We had a great night watching our Dodgers and scoffing down those sandwiches. My Mother would go on Ladies day for .50 and especially liked to see Robin Roberts on the Phillies play the Bums. Of course she rooted for the Dodgers. The sad part is (and this is why I despise the name O'Malley) My Mom died in 1954 and the Dodgers won their first World Series in 1955. Then in 58 they moved to LaLa land. I remember when they first came on TV and they had Happy Felton and the Knothole gang. Later on I think Ralph Kiner took that job over. One last memory. My Mothers sister, Anna, lived on 90th Street in an apartment house. She was at our house one night and mentioned that these two handsome young ball players were sub-letting in her building. I asked if she remembered their names, Oh yes she said, Duke something & Pee Wee something!!!!Never got their autograph. :bigsmurf:

WARREN....I got chills just thinking about your story as well as my childhood memories of my dad and his bums. It was a special time in baseball and in New York back then.I was 2 yrs old in 1955 and 5 yrs old when they left for L.A.
But, I knew in some way what was happening and how my Dad was feeling.I remember every Sunday after Church, my Dad would ask us if we wanted to go to the Zoo in Prospect Park. We would spend 1 hour in the Zoo, and 2 Hours looking at this old ,Closed up building with broken windows. I even think I remember my Father wiping a tear from his eye every now & then. When I got a Little older, I realized that old Broken Down Building was Ebbets Field. Now, every now & then, I find myself wiping a tear from my Eye....For my Dad.Have a Very Merry Christmas Warren...Happy Holidays to you and your family.....
