Bad news folks. I heard from a neighbor this morning there was a double break in at our building on the corner of Brooklyn and Dean. This is a very unusual occurence for us and people are definitely shaken up.

One intruder pushed in an A/C to get in and another climbed in a window -- two different apartments.

    For peace of mind, you could request a free security survey from the NYPD. We just had Officer Lora, the crime prevention specialist at the 77th precinct, do one for our building (about three blocks from you) last week. To schedule one, leave a message in the community affairs voicemail at the precinct: 718-735-0611. Or I think his direct line is 718-735-0672.

    Thanks so much. I am actually leaving the building for a number of reasons but including the fact I was violently mugged on the corner two years ago. Haven't felt safe since :(

    We (the Tenants Assocation) have been working with Brooklyn Housing & Family Services who helped the building install new security cameras a few years ago.

    I will pass this information along to current tenants. Thank you.

    I feel sorry for you, it's such a violation of privacy. For my part, I NEVER leave a window unlocked on my second floor apartment (which has outside stairs to access windows) even if step out for 10 mins. As for AC unit, during the summer, I used to take it out of the window every morning before going to work. As Oliver Wilde used to say "The only thing I can't resist is temptation".
