great bike ride this weekend

apropos of nothing, i took a great bike ride this weekend. rode up vanderbilt from ft greene, pumped some air in the fabulous bike shop on bergen, rode to grand army plaza, got into the bike lanes in the prospect pk loop, exited at prospect park southwest, hit the parade grounds, watched a great football (soccer match to the americans out there) match between some haitian/west indian teams, rode down argyle road, thru ditmas park and prospect park south, saw some great houses, rode down empire blvd to washington ave, rode up along side the botanic gardens/museum, all the way down washington ave past the washington condos, across the street to clinton hill, made a left on greene ave
and went back home. about 2 hours of thrills and about 5-10 miles of biking...

anyone else have fave routes?

i love making the loop through p. park, exiting on ocean avenue, and riding out to coney island. it only takes about 35-40 min, and has a really nice bike path.

did you get a bike map at the bikeshop? thats the best way to find interesting new routes!

i didn't know about the bike path on ocean ave. is this the median in the middle of the street that you are talking about? or is that ocean parkway?

    doesn't seem really safe...

but if it's only 35-40 minutes, that's worth the ride...

Another way to Coney Island is to head South - along 5th Ave until 41st or so, the turn right towards 2nd Ave. Take 2nd Ave to roughly 69th Street and turn right to the 69th Street Pier. From there you can ride along the bike path along the water past the Verrazano Bridge. The bike path eventually ends - near a Toys R US - but if you keep heading in the same direction you'll see signs for amusements at Coney Island and if you follow those you'll end up at KeySpan Park - home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. I usually take this road to Coney Island and then take Ocean Pkwy back. Round trip from Prospect Park is a solid 16-18 miles. There is more traffic this way than taking Ocean Pkwy but it's definitely scenic.
  • I love that bike path on the water there Digital - its also where they fly some really cool kites.
