Crazy guy screaming at early AM hours
I remember early morning on Saturday some lunatic was SCREAMING crazy words outside near St. Marks Ave and Classon Ave. Then, yesterday around 4:30 am he continued again and is TOTALLY unacceptable. Did anyone around the nabe hear him? It was different than just a homeless guy yelling (which I'm used to) bc it sounded REALLY close to the building I live in. Like he definitely was hearing voices and sounded really angry/sad. Scared the shit outta me..

My first thought is post-bar traffic, though 4:30 am would be very late for that. Also, as far as I know, there are no bars near that intersection.

Yea no it wasn't like a drunk rant. The guy sounded schizo (heard voices)..he said things like, " 5 4 3 2 1 I"m a ZERO!! You're all cockroaches...". Just interested if anyone else heard him, he was definitely out of the norm.

@whynot_31 can address this from the social services perspective.

I have to address this?
Sorry, but I can only do so much.

On a somewhat related note (but not really) tonight was the second time I heard some guy singing opera near GAP. He has a great voice--very powerful. Has anyone else heard him?

There is a psychiatric residence on St. Mark's, between Classon and Franklin, so maybe this was one of the occupants? Either way, NYC is filled with mentally ill people who are receiving no or insufficient treatment.
Thanks for the link, whynot. It seems that the mental health care system is about to become more overwhelmed, if that's possible.
BTW, I have heard from an employee of the above-mentioned residence that the lease for the building was lost and all clients will be relocated by April 2012.

I suspect that most of the Supervised Community Residences and the scatter site apartments will be gone within a few years.
For better or worse

the opera guy sings alot walking up and down vanderbilt. you can hear him from blocks away. i wouldnt be surprised if he's also the crazy guy in the original post, ive gotten a look at him a couple times, he does mutter angrily to himself and looks homeless.

Opera Guy is a character.
I see him pretty regularly on Vanderbilt. I suspect he is both mentally ill and addicted to substances. Needless to say, such comorbid disorders are very common.

I propose an album series entitled "MICA Melodies".

Given the lack of "Were those gun shots or fireworks?" threads lately, Opera Man may warrant his own thread.

Oh great, i moved from the upper west side and this guy on broadway and now we have a one on my street in brooklyn?

sorry about the loud yelling, i was trying to get my pimp money from my workers!!! :clown:

I think it might be the same guy the SWAT team is taking down right now, on Franklin and Classon. Not the MICA housing, though that's where the stabbing was a couple of weeks ago. Word in the building is he's been acting crazy for a couple of weeks, since he stopped taking his meds.
-
jillo, is the SWAT team still there? Any updates?
-
I saw a lot of police there around 7:00, but not in SWAT outfits. Did it happen around then?
-
no updates. the police first came a little before 7, and at around 7:30, the SWAT team showed up.
-
When I walked by around 7, they had some guy under arrest and were putting in a car over by the shuttle stop. There was a couple of NYPD vans.
-
speaking of crazy rants - anyone know anything about the woman who walks around wearing all white screaming at no one unless she catches someone's attention and then re-directs all of her ranting at them? Was the recipient of her directed rant last week and then saw her again yesterday evening around the GAP arch yelling about how its hard to love your enemies... both times i've seen her its been in that general area around 7 or 8pm...
