Better driving route Crown Heights-->Brighton Beach
Every time I drive from Crown Heights to Brighton Beach (monthly Russian food quota, mmmm), I swear that there must be a better route than what Google Maps suggests.
Nostrand all the way south to Kings Hwy?! As you all know, people double park like crazy, and with all the potholes, it takes twenty minutes to even get to Empire Blvd. Same goes for Bedford Ave.
Can someone suggest a route to Brighton Beach that isn't all crazy people double parked, potholes, etc? I'm coming from NY Ave, north of Eastern Parkway.

1. Have you tried Coney Island Avenue? You could start on Nostrand and cut across to it - or even skip Nostrand altogether by taking Eastern Parkway to Grand Army Plaza, and then take Prospect Park West which turns into Coney Island.
2. What about the subway? If you can get to Atlantic Ave station it should be a straight shot.

I don't drive that often, but isn't Ocean Avenue pretty nice and wide all the way down?

Ocean Parkway or Ocean Ave all the way to the end. Saturday is best since many of the people will not be driving that day.

Another option is to use Brooklyn Ave to the end (dead ends at Kings County) make the right and then the left onto NY Avenue, then take NY Avenue out to Avenue H. Take a right on H and take it back to Nostrand. You'll pick Nostrand up at the Flatbush junction. Post junction, you should be ok. Brooklyn is wide and moves fast and NY Ave, while a bus route is pretty tame in comparison to Nostrand.

I go Empire Blvd to Ocean Ave. Right on Parkside around the circle to Ocean Pkwy. This is on late Friday afternoons and it's no problem at all.

Ocean Parkway all the way three lanes each way and slow cars have service road where cars park noton the road.

All the southern routes are shit down to... well, Kings Highway lol. If your car has a good suspension I would just cut across to Kings Highway and take that all the way down to Ocean. I think Kings Highway is like a 3 lane... well, highway, lol. The lights are a bitch but at least you will be moving. I'd rather take longer and be moving than be stuck in 1 lane traffic.

You may also want to try different days & hours. I usually go to BB during the week between the hours of 11am & 2pm. Not so much for the route going down, but for BB itself. More parking & clearer streets is usually what I see on BB Ave. Otherwise, I'm not so sure Homeowner's suggestion isn't your best bet. A bit of a maze, but probably the best flowing streets you'll hit before you arrive at the Junction, or any other Flatbush Avenue crossing.
