Good driving school? — Brooklynian

Good driving school?

Hi,

Can somebody recommend a good driving school at a reasonable price around Park Slope or Prospect Heights?

Thanks a lot!

  • I used Globex a year ago and then went to Fox for more lessons. Globex's cars are *Really* Old Grandpa cars and the teachers were meh. Fox was the same price and the cars are newer and my teacher was great. http://foxdriving.com/

  • I'm in Pro. Hts and I used U.S. Auto School. They're in downtown Brooklyn but they pick you up for lessons, and can then take you to the test wherever you'd like to take it. I took it in Red Hook and both of us taking the test that day passed with no problem.

I had really never driven before taking lessons with them (native Manhattanite), so I'd recommend. I'd also recommend doing double-lessons (1 1/2 hrs instead of 45 minutes) because you get a lot more real driving time.

  • Thank you very much, guys!

  • I would stay away from these guys:

A Brooklyn couple is facing federal charges for running a high-tech scheme to beat the DMV. They allegedly rigged the results of hundreds of commercial drivers license tests.

Local, state and federal investigators spent hours at N&Y Professional Service Line driving school in Sunset Park, collecting evidence against the owners Ying Wai Phillip Ng and his wife, Pui Kuen Ng.

Investigators believe the alleged high-tech scam helped hundreds of people pass the multiple choice commercial drivers license test at DMV offices.

    It gets worse:

Records show that since January 2010, a least 720 people associated with the school have taken the test for commercial licenses. Authorities say one of the students was King Yiu Cheung, who authorities say admitted to falling asleep at the wheel when a low-fare bus from Greensboro, N.C., to New York City crashed on Interstate 95 just north of Richmond, Va.

Four passengers were killed. Cheung is facing manslaughter charges.

A criminal complaint in the Brooklyn case makes no specific allegation that Cheung cheated on his test. However, investigators suspect that the driving school owners "have been engaged in criminal conduct for years, involving potentially hundreds of drivers who ... drive trucks and buses without being able to pass a commercial driver's license test, or perhaps speak English at all," prosecutors wrote in court papers.
