i think i might try hehe. but give us your results first

The city sent me a brochure recently that was a how-to. I think they also offer composting bins for like $40 or something.
I found this site, I'm not sure if it's the same project as the one I receieved a brochure from.

You can take your compost to the Ft Greene farmer's market on Saturdays. Not sure if the PS market offers the same thing or not.

Yes, the city sells bins through various gardens (like BBG), for $20.

I called their hotline - they are out of stock except in Staten Island.
At Fresh Kills, no less. THAT trip would make you want to compost for sure... -

Yeah, BBG is in on the city Dept of Sanitation composting project -- Boygabriel put the link above.
But their next workshop (Brooklyn, but not at BBG) is not until October. -
I have a composter in the yard and it requires very little to maintain. The one I have is the standard one that you can pick up at one of the city's compost givebacks for about 20 bucks. I've also never had a problem with rodents or any smell. The compost will break down quicker if you turn it once in a while, but you'll get there eventually even if you neglect it.

The guy at 5XX Bergen essentially turned his entire home into a compost heap! You should see it.
Here's a link to the NYC Compost Project. You'll find info there on the next event.

Crazy!

Yes, but for best results, you shouldn't mix any meat scraps or non-organics with your compost.
