old tree stands no chance to chopping!
I look out my window and see two beautiful old trees. One of them has been gradually diminishing. It's in the backyard of 186 22nd str. but the chopping of perfectly fine big limbs has been happening from 188 22nd str. Nobody uses that backyard but for some reason the owner of the building thinks it's OK to chop the perfectly fine branches of this old tree that has been growing for so many years. Just thought to share some photos since such disrespect for Nature infuriates me! I asked the guys why....no explanation offered...there just doing their job, I guess.

The tree branches were not dry. I personally checked them outside the building after they chopped them. They were in good condition ready for the spring season to come. Unfortunately did not stand a chance to human idiocy. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Aside from the fact that it does not seem to be a professional tree-trimmer (not cheap), I can see why someone might think those limbs should be shortened. At what looks like the 7/8 ft level the tree branches into multiple trunks. There is no single central riser. The these limbs grow further & further from the center of the tree & produce more leaves, they become heavier & heavier & thus more subject to a break, even if they are green. In heavy wet snows like last October, these are the limbs that are most easily damaged. If the trimming is done correctly - and this is the time to do it - the tree will be heathier & live longer. Also you should remember thatwith our narrow backyards, trees can block the sun, take down telephopne lines & damage other people's property when they break & fall.

thanks for clarifying. it seemed to me that such beautiful and big branches were being chopped. definitely not a professional trimmer. hopefully the tree will be fine with such vogorous trimming.
