Ah, the days of splitting an apartment 3 ways....
I rarely miss you.

Ladies and Gents,
My roommate and I are looking for a third roommate in our laid back apartment. Personally I don't like reading long stories in ads or presently writing them where the person gives every specific character trait on what kind of roommate they want (not cool). We're open to however you are but I know some of you will definitely test that statement, the room isn't that big I just measured it and it's 9.5 by 11ft which comes out to 104.5 sqft. Their isn't a closet (I know most women and some men just stopped reading this ad) but their is a built in shelf as well as a window facing other peoples windows. My roommate and I both usually stay up pretty late (btw 1-4am) but we're considerate and respectful of other people's schedules and lives, really I'm not just saying that. To move in you would have to pay 1st of the month and security which comes out to $1300 ($650 x 2) which includes rent, utilities and internet. All we as is you pay the rent on the 1st of the month, be CLEAN, be 420 friendly, wine friendly, music friendly, book reading in the common area friendly and whatever other kind of friendly. We're looking to fill the room and add the third and final roommate ASAP. We'll be showing the room all this week. The apartment is on Park Place between Franklin ave and Classon ave which means within a 4 block radius is Franklin Park, Washington Common, Crown Inn, Barboncino, Pete Zaaz, Chevella's, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park and a handful of coffee shops. The Park Place S Shuttle is right across the street which goes to the C, Q and B. The Franklin Stop is 4 blocks away which has the 2, 3, 4 and 5. So their isn't any reason why at 2 a.m. you can't take a train home and not some cab who refuses to go to Brooklyn. Alright I assume I'll hear from some of you.
The ad lists the address as being at 600 Park Place

Doesn't sound too bad, really

My 20s were a lot of fun. ...but I think I lived in better housing.
If I was in my 20s now, is this where I would live?

The author's inability to differentiate between their and there really killed me. Otherwise the ad seemed pretty standard. Not bad really. I paid around that, with similar parameters, in my mid to late 20s. My apartment then featured the shower/tub in the hallway right in front of the second entrance. Even the sink had it's own tiny room.
The landlord, Morris (Moses) Kirschner accused us of deliberately causing any damage when something aged broke so he wouldn't have to fix anything. Eventually everyone in the building got used to the fact that there was never going to be a front door buzzer. I wonder if The Old Man is still kicking.

I think the trick to renting people at this stage in their life is to make sure that those around them are also in a similar stage.
Otherwise, people complain about noise and have different definitions of what constitutes being "friendly" vs what constitutes "disrespect".
I sort of miss having a lifestyle that allows me to go to bed between 1 and 4 AM.

Hell, I was married at 23 and bought my first house when I was 26. I couldn't see living like this but then I'm from a different generation.

Because those who make more tend to spend more on housing, I suspect the person moving into this room won't have a very large monthly income.
I imagine their take home "pay" to be around $1400 a month.
I'd like to think they are living off student loans, rather than trying to make ends meet off of a job that pays around $12 an hour (1400 x 1.3 = Income before taxes. Income before taxes / 160 hours a month = hourly wage).
...this belief allows me to think they will only be in this situation temporarily.
Likewise, I assume the roommates living in the other two rooms are doing a little better, and have bigger rooms.
...but there is a lot of assumptions in there.

I think I was making all of $800/mo back then and the wife was making about the same thing. But housing was much cheaper then too. And since it was a two family house there was rental income. $235/mo for a three room apartment and I let the woman have a washing machine in the basement.

While this 3BR apartment rents for probably something around $2200 (800 + 800 + 650), it sounds as if it is composed of people who don't have a lot for rent.
As a result, I've gotta shake my head at those who think all of the newbies moving to Western Crown Heights are wealthy.

I still have tenants that do it, I always told them if they want me to do background checks for them etc.. they always never do
, they seem to do only a talk interview.
