CHCA April Meeting
2 Important Agenda Items This Month
The 77th Precinct will be attending (officers from both the command & Impact) to meet with the community and answer questions.
We will also have a "working" meeting to start organizing Operation TBOC (Take Back Our Community) This is a program that is designed to provide community members with the tools to take control of “quality of life” issues in their community.
It is structured block by block and we want to reach out to anyone who is interested. For this project we are going outside our "official" borders to include the blocks between Franklin & Classon so please join us if you are interested
You can review the program here: TBOC presentation

It seems they forgot to add time and place:
Crow Hill Community Association Meeting
Tue, April 17, 7:30pm – 9:00pm
The Gospel Tabernacle Church - 725 Franklin Ave
between Park & Sterling Pl.
-
CHCA's web site states:
"Crow Hill is part of the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn, with boundaries from Eastern Parkway to Atlantic on Franklin Avenue, Eastern Parkway to St. Marks on Bedford Avenue, and the streets in between."
I find this to be a peculiar (and unfounded) assertion.
-
I refer to the area bordered by Nostrand, Eastern Parkway, Washington and Atlantic as "Western Crown Heights".
I make no distinctions within that area, but am aware some people want me to.
-
"Western Crown Heights" is more of a geographic description than a neighborhood boundary. "Crown Heights" is a real neighborhood, and it has a "western" section.
The historical "Crow Hill" moniker certainly did not refer to the area proposed by CHCA. So as far as I'm concerned, this definition is as made up as "ProCro."
-
The name Crown Heights was made up originally too, but then caught on.
Organizations that try to make me refer to something by a new name (ie realtors and "ProCro"), or use a name that is seemingly old and forgotten (ie CHCA and "Crow Hill") have an up hill battle when it comes to me.
Others are more malleable.

eastbloc,
I was wondering about that myself. I was born and raised in Crown Heights and never heard the name Crow Hill until a few years ago. Then I was reading this link through wikipedia: http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/Town/1888.BedfordHills.html. And it seems to be saying that Crow Hill was from New York Ave (or Brooklyn Ave, depending) to Schenectady. Do you know the historical borders? -
As we understand it, most of what Crown Heights is called today was once referred to as Crow Hill.
And as we know neighborhood names/lines are in a constant state of fluxPlease do not confuse an organization's name & area of concern with perceived geographical boundaries
When Crow Hill got its 501-3c 26 years ago these were the boundaries defined in our designation and it is the area AS AN ORGANIZATION that we try to cover.
We are part of Crown Heights and make no claim to being in a position to "define" boundaries other than for the purposes of our group. Thanks whynot for posting the address.
