Has media bias convicted a man before all the facts could come out?

The Senior Producer at NBC who manipulated the phone call has been fired.
Now, we await an announcement re: Zimmerman's arrest, and the reaction of the public.
Given that his life may be ruined whether he is arrested or not, It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up killing himself. ....that would be sad, nothing is worth killing yourself over.

Vigilante justice ain't pretty. It's better to leave justified shootings to authorized, friendly police officers.

I wonder why they skipped the grand jury? Shouldn't it be standard??????

Grand Jury is only necessary if the prosecutor wanted to bring first degree murder charges. Everything else is discretionary. Most prosecutors use the GJ to give themselves cover, but evidently this one decided she'd risk taking the heat and would make the decision on her own.

There were also some pretty clear statements about how a conviction is being pursed because they believe a law has broken, not as a result of public opinion. I hope these statements are sincere.
Regardless of whether he is convicted, I hope this case causes to public to think about the legal process and why it is set up the way it is.
I hope people see both the good and the bad aspects of the legal system, and then conclude the legal system is superior to a system based on personal (or mob) emotion/mentality in the absence of facts and formal authority.

Two brothers accused of beating a black teenager while patrolling an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood are set to go on trial Monday in a case with similarities to the Trayvon Martin shooting.
The brothers, who are white and Jewish, have claimed self-defense, saying the teen was holding a nail-studded board. Local civil rights activists hope the Martin case will draw more attention to what they believe was racial profiling by neighborhood watch vigilantes.
Eliyahu and Avi Werdesheim are accused of beating a 15-year-old boy who was walking through a Baltimore neighborhood in November 2010. The brothers pulled up next to the teen in a vehicle, then got out and "surrounded him," according to charging documents. The passenger threw the teen to the ground and the driver hit him in the head with a hand-held radio and patted him down.

why do white's fear young black males? must be something for this to keep happening.

An autopsy of Trayvon Martin, the black unarmed teenager who was fatally shot by a Florida neighborhood watch volunteer, shows that his body had injuries to the knuckles, while a medical report on the shooter, George Zimmerman, shows that he suffered a broken nose, two black eyes, and cuts on the back of his head, according to a Florida TV news channel and ABC News.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/n...,7794169.story
WFTV.com reports that a medical examiner found two injuries on Martin’s body: the fatal gunshot wound to the chest and broken skin on his knuckles.

So called innocent child has no other injuries besides his bloody knuckles and the gunshot wound. if a innocent person being attack would have some other wounds. so what he was being followed. but he attack someone all the evidence clearly shows. other news feds is considering hate crime federal charges because they think this might not stick.

The FBI is considering charging Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman with a hate crime.

I'm not sure if you've been following this case, but on May 3rd one of the brothers was found guilty, and faces up to 10 years at sentencing.Based on the various news sources, (all of which I'm hesitant to rely upon...) there is a lot of conflicting info about the incident, and it should be interesting to see whether the feds OR the FL authorities can get a conviction.
There seems to be a lot of conflicting accounts, and a jury will likely have to consider them all.
If Zimmerman isn't convicted, will history remember the police chief who didn't initially charge him as being a wise man?
-
or a jury who doesn't want to see a riot, might just hang him for the public. for the greater good, they'll throw the bloody thirsty public who might not see reason.
-
I don't understand why the police or da just release this info from the very beginning and sit on all this. it wouldn't of gotten way out of hand. now you have a entrench people who wants to hang him from the president down.
the hate crimes charge is bogus, i think they will if they don't get him a local level.
sucks for those guys in Baltimore. Lesson learn let the crime happen and let the cops show up after the criminals run away. lol like nyc cops do.
-
I just find it ironic that the reputation of the police chief will be forever impacted by the outcome of the complex trial.
...because he took time to make a decision, people will perceive him as either "racist" or "wise".
-
so which news stations only show the little kids picture from the beginning and only play that tape of him saying black guy or whatever. lol have they even bother to post these updates or they are sticking to their original convict the guy first ideas.
-
he try to quit and they won't let him how funny is that.

When a media source reports that Trayvon had marijuana in his system, are they trying to influence the reader?
....or, is it up to the reader to think about it? Is the mere existence of information prejudicial? Does media have an obligation to filter the types of facts it reports in order to remain somewhat impartial?
-
No. The media has the obligation to report the news, period. If they withheld that info, they wouldn't be doing their job.
It is our job, as citizens, to process the information we get from the media.
-
The vigilante will receive a first hand look at the criminal justice system, a privilege he denied his victim.
-
Baltimore seems to have some thoughtful citizens. Perhaps they could give Zimmerman the elusive privilege of a fair criminal justice trial.
-
Because having traces of marijuanna-related substances in your bloodstream would certainly make one prone to violent tendencies.
Should this young man have physically assaulted another man, even one who was who was following him at night for no apparent reason, in what we may assume is a threatening way? Nope.
Should said follower have pulled a gun and shot said young man to death? Nope.
Both may be "in the wrong", depending on your point of view, but only one ended up dead. With no arrest, trial, verdict or any other sort of due process whatsoever, I might add.
A 17-yr old young man, who happened to be black, who may have enjoyed occasionally smoking some pot, is dead because someone took it upon themselves to create a situation they had no business creating, even after a police representative told him to stay put. Zimmerman chose to ignore that order and as a direct result took it upon himself to be judge, jury and executioner. The guy wouldn't have been "assaulted" by Martin had he just kept his ass in his car after reporting a "suspicious individual" to the police and then just waited for their arrival.
Who thinks Zimmerman only got out of the car because he knew he was carrying? Seriously, would he have waited for the police if he didn't have a gun on him?
-
Yes, the crux of this trial is likely to be a determination re: who stood their ground.
If I was on the jury, I would like to believe that I could resolve people's right to bear arms, with their culpability when using said guns. That would make me Superman.
Does everyone believe they could be Superman?
....Zimmerman and Martin both may have tried to be Superman, but I would get it right..... Damn it.

Witness Testimony Reveals George Zimmerman As A Bully And Racist In The Workplace
Apparently, a former colleague of Zimmerman was interviewed by the Florida DA. The interview reveals that Zimmerman was a bit too prone to "jokes" (i.e., dipsh*t racist slurrs), and was fired for it.
Just sayin'.
-
I've also heard rumors that there is "evidence" that shows Martin was shot from a few feet away.
...if true, it would sway me away from believing that Zimmerman's life was in danger, and lead me (a fictional juror) to find Zimmerman culpable in Martin's death.
Oh, how we are all perfect in hypothetical situations...

I agree. I just wish we had a better press and that everyone would have the skills that come from a sound education that stressed critical thinking.
Then, I would know that everyone had access to lots of points view, and the skills to think it all through. Then, I would have faith in people's ability to be logical and not reactionary. Then, I would not have the urge to censor things to protect myself from the likely reactions of others.
At the present time, I find it difficult to smugly blame people for accepting the views of others.
A world where I could feel smug would be great. In this world it seems everyone is holding either no sign, or a sign that says Justice For Treyvon, or one that says Justice For Zimmerman.
I never see anyone holding both signs.
