12th street bar, you need some new bartenders

likely my favorite bar/rest./hangout in the neighborhood is 12th street. really, i love the place. i'm never the oldest one there, the music is really loud but usually rocks, great food and good wine, darts. a good vibe all around. really i love the place.

but last night. geez. these bartenders sucked. now, i know being a bartender and i waiter for SIX tables is back-breaking hard work. especially when there are two bartenders at busy times.

half the time, both bartenders were outside having cig. ok, i know you need a nicotine break. i get it. been there. but, un, hello? you have a job... and that job includes: busing SIX tables (which you only did because we had to wave to you to come over), coming by to see if the food is good and if we need more drinks (which you only did because we had to wave to you to come over), getting us our check without having to wave and stand...

even then, stupid bartender, you placed it ON THE BAR and tried to motion that that's where it was. and there was no way in hell that i was going to go up there and get it. (esp. since my date was paying, and had i not told him that's what the bartender did he'd never have seen it... so we decided to pretend it wasn't there.)

finally, when three customers were left in the bar, and both child-bartenders were hanging with some friends at the end of the bar, they decided to crank the music so high it was, well, TOO HIGH. and i'm all about the loud music. but jeez. and our dumb bartender came over and brought the check. we paid, rolled our eyes and left.

and i have to tell you--obv., because i'm writing this post--that i love this bar and i'm angry that the owners let such boobs run the bar. i've waitressed, i know the drill. make your customers happy, suggest more drinks or dessert or whatever so they'll spend more $$. honestly, the man couldn't have cared less that we were there. in fact, i think it annoyed him that we were there.

so, moron child-bartender, do your job.

that's all. thank you very much.

  • there are plenty of places that have good service that want your money
spend your money elsewhere until they have their act together
  • i know. but i love it there. the hamburger is amazing. the mussels are yummy. everything is yummy. except the moron bartender. (actually, i'll take that back. i don't know that he was a moron. i know that he was LAZY)
  • Eat in the restaurant instead.

Or, don't tip (certainly not well) and let them know WHY.
  • BP. I'm curious who the bartenders are these days. The last time I was a regular at 12th, Ella and some guy were there a lot. Ah, Chris and Tommy where are ye now.

Actually, Chris was working the VIP bar at Celebrate Brooklyn this summer, a nice surprise.

sadly it wasn't ella, because she fabulous. and it wasn't that other great women, the blondish one either. it was two young guys. who sucked.
  • I could not agree more about the service at 12th St. Ever since Ella left, the bar section has gone down the tubes.
  • the new woman, who isn't on weekends, is actually quite good. but you're right about ella.
  • She always took care of me, but that place hasn't been much in a long long time. If it weren't for the fact I can eat that steak and watch the Mets....I could live without it.

but the burger rocks, and the mussels are yummy... and that cute tattooed/pierced bartender was cool to look at. as was ella

we should have a Park Slope happy hour at 12th street dot dot dot
  • Agreed on the burger, though once I picked up on the steak I don't think I ever ordered it. Last I saw of Ella she was at ummm bar minnow on 9th, but that might have been midwinter.

I'd like to do that actually but first we'd have to have a long annoying thread and I'm not sure I can deal with that. I think I may have an early dinner there tonight though now that I've been barking up that steak all morning.
