mural on eastern parkway and franklin — Brooklynian

mural on eastern parkway and franklin

According to ILFA they are taking down the mural on Franklin and EPW tomorrow. Is there any way to buy a part of it? The panels are so beautiful!

  • I believe the panels are free. The construction workers are just going to pry them off for people who want them. You may asked to buy a replacement piece of plywood to replace the one you want.....

Also, I suspect the people who painted the murals should get first dibs on them if they are present and want them.

You should come to Tuesdays mtg.

Tuesday, May 15, 7:30 PM -The Gospel Tabernacle Church/725 Franklin Ave/Between Park Pl. and Sterling Pl.

  • Update as per CHCA:

If you want your panel- you must come tomorrow morning (Monday) at 8am  to get it. Talk to Tom on the construction crew- by the way- he was nice enough to give us a heads up that they were coming down.

If you are there they will do their best to take the panel down with out damaging it too much.... If you want a panel that is not yours- that may be ok too....but check with the artist....If you can't come at 8am- you can come later- the panels will be set aside for the day- they just might not be in great shape.

  • Update: panels are coming down Tuesday at 8AM

  • http://gothamist.com/2012/05/16/early_addition_1042.php I nearly choked seeing this headline on Gothamist today.

  • Seriously hoping that is tongue in cheek. I don't read Gothamist enough to know their angle.

  • Gothamist is known for having provocative headlines. As much as I love such websites, I also mourn journalism's demise.

....speaking of provocative, could we call this new building The ProCro, but still refer to the neighborhood as western Crown Heights?

  • No, we cannot call this new building the freaking ProCro. But heck, I finally moved out to Bed-Stuy in February after almost a decade in the neighborhood, so I have no say in it anymore. Speaking of which, everyone in Western CH should move out by us in Bed-Stuy, it feels very refreshingly like Western CH circa 2006. I sincerely hope it stays this way for a long time.

I came by the old hood a few weeks ago to take pictures of my then 3 yr old daughter's contribution to this mural, just for posterity's sake. It was sad.
