Found Dog, rottweiler mix Washington Ave and Bergen St.
I was walking down Washington Ave around 1am and saw a dog (rottweiler or rott mix maybe) sleeping on the corner of Bergen St. in front of the closed liquor store. He/she didn't seem injured--just tired napping, but I didn't want to get too close so I didn't really inspect. I looked at him for a little while and he watched me but didn't move. I asked the drivers at International Car Service down the block if they knew anything about him and they said he'd been hanging around since about 9pm and had followed a couple of people, so I assume he/she is gentle. I called 311 to report a found dog and they referred me to Animal Care and Control--but no one is open at this hour. I feel badly that I can't take him in but I hope that if he is lost someone will read this post!

If the dog is still there when you go back do not call AC&C as they are a high kill shelter and would likely put him to sleep if he is deemed not adoptable (wrong breed, wrong color, etc) Call real shelters like Sean Casey, Brooklyn Animal Rescue Center, or Mighty Mutts who if they cannot take the dog should be able to direct you to a reliable place where the dog can be safe.

Did it have a collar and leash? There was a similar dog in the park today (and according to another guy he was there yesterday enjoying all the garbage). Another dog owner was going to take him home and see if she can locate an owner. He's a super sweet dog and looks good, so maybe a recent dump. He was really relaxed and mellow with people and dogs and seems to have some training and knew tricks. He looked happy that someone was going to take him home.

It turns out that the dog I posted about is a different one. The woman who took it ran into the owner, who seemed to think the dog would have eventually found him. Maybe it was the same dog and the owner just lets it roam a little too much!

Glad to hear! I fear that my dog also might go running to the liquor store also to be found if she got out. That is when you know you go too much!
Howdy, Stranger!
