Lost tuxedo cat — Brooklynian

Lost tuxedo cat

I'm so sad to say that my cat got out on Thursday, June 14, around 1pm on Third Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. His name is Kacey. He is a black-and-white tuxedo, mostly black with white paws and chest, and with a white spot on his nose.

He is 9 years old, about 14 pounds, is fixed, and has claws. He was not wearing a collar, and he is not microchipped.

We have flyered the immediate area and are grateful to have received many calls. Unfortunately there is a cat matching this description at or near the music building on 9th Street, but that is not our guy. We've tracked down three other cats matching the description, but have not yet found our best friend.

Please try to look for the white spot on the nose as that's his most distinguishing feature. He's always been friendly, but I think he'll be scared and probably won't let you pet him unless you offer food. He has a really high-pitched little meow.

If you think you've seen him, please call 718-404-6096. We will offer a reward if he's found. Thank you so much.

  • Well, I did call you and apparently the cat that has taken up residence on 9th Street is not your cat. If he is YOUR lost cat... stop by and claim him.

  • I would also put up posts for him with his pic of Tabby Tracker and Petfinder. You can also post in Craigslist but I wouldn't put a pic up there as its not as safe. Ask people to take pics of the cats and send you the pics so you can compare before you go meet anyone from Craigslist to be safe.

Also go to local pet stores and vet offices with the pics and talk to the people who work there and put flyers up there. Only 25% of lost cats without microchips are ever found and returned to their owners.

Visit the AC&C with missing poster ask to see new arrivals, maybe someone brought your cat in. You can ask them to keep an eye out for you for your cat but they are notoriously unorganized and unreliable in this so you may want to go there weekly looking for your cat.

Last but not least contact local rescue groups and ask them to keep an eye out for your kitty - they can contact local rescuers to keep an eye out as it is likely your kitty will wander to a nearby colony for food and shelter. I can put up a post on the feral cat listserve if you give me more specific details of your kitty, when exactly and where exactly lost and a clear recent pic. At least then people who notice cats will keep their eye out for you.

If you do get your kitty back get them microchipped though.

  • The Fido mailing list goes to lots of people in Park Slope. You should check out their lost pets page.

  • Well the Tuxedo cat who was hanging on 9th and 5th ave...has found a home!

  • Well retraction on the cat hanging by our house having found a home. The cat is still out there. If anyone wants to give him a home send me a message.

  • There is a black and white tuxedo kitty on the kill list at the AC&C tonight, the pic is not good but he's def friendly and was someone's pet who either got lost or was dumped - have a look:
