Fun Vacation Shit

Ok, so I'm a university teacher and have been living in the neighborhood for almost 8 years now and feel like I've exhausted my Brooklyn entertainment ideas for the time being. Anyway, I'm on vacation for two more weeks and was just wondering if any of you have some new and interesting ideas/places to check out in Brklyn. I do have a bike and have been all over the borough, including riding all the way out to Coney Island, Flushing Meadows, Bowling Alleys in Sunset Park, etc. Something kind of fresh would be great. Now, I'm well aware of shit weather for the next few days, but anything you guys could pass on would be great. Thanks.

  • How about the Gateway area via the Belt E. ped/bike path? If you follow Emmons Ave down towards JFK you'll see the path start again. Go into the cove nearby and watch the windsurfers, then follow the path untill you hit the bridle trail. I've taken the path to Floyd Bennet and the Canarsie pier. You can also hit the Rockaways via the Marine Park Bridge or the Cross Bay Bridge in Howard Beach. There's also Williamsburg and Greenpoint via Bedford Avenue onto Kent/Franklin St. People seem to live by the bike down there. Gerritsen Beach. You make a right on Nostrand from Flatbush (or head down one of the letter avenues from Ocean parkway or Bedford), ride a couple of miles to Gerritsen Avenue and hook a left, take it all the way down to the end. Nothing but old houses on the water and about a mile of beach in the bay. It's almost like going back in time. There's the Paerdergarts, Starret City where massive park building is going on. In short, what you should do is get a Hagstrom map of NYC and search for areas that you don't recognize. Or do what I do and just ride and wander.
  • and there's a decent map listed in the nyc board right now, too.
  • Sounds promising, I.--roughly how many miles a round trip is that?

    Which one?
  • Have you tried the roller skating rink on Empire Blvd?

Its a Brooklyn fixture, and worth checking out, and the weather doesn't matter. Everyone is there to have a good time.
