Hooters Breastaurant considers Flatbush Avenue, is a Bass Pro Shop next?

  • Hey, don't underestimate the draw of a Pro Bass Shop. NYC has a huge population of fishermen (fisherpeople?). Do people object to Hooters because it's a chain or because of the sexual component? I don't see why anyone would get upset about the latter, given that the area is home to a shop that sells dildoes, lube, sex tapes, and guides on anal intercourse. Me? I love them all and will gladly partronize Hooters when, not if, they open a branch in our neighborhood.

  • I just hope the management of Hooters appreciates the diversity of Brooklyn. Blondes from South Carolina aren't everyone's favorite, and I hate to see a business not live up to its potential.

Apologies for quoting out of context.

  • I am just glad Jack finally feels comfortable telling us such things after all these years.

  • If you don't like it don't patronise it. If it doesn't get enough business it will close down. I would not go to Hooters myself, but if they opened a restaurant with scantily clad beefcake servers, that's another story.

I guess my issue is I won't go to it - and my guts says most people who live here won't either. Who WILL be going are the tourists, the out-of-towners, the sports fans, etc who don't care about our community but rather came to see a concert or a game and now want cheap wings and beers at a place they deem "safe" (ie they've heard of before and know it has a constantly across the country) and so the Applebee's and Hooters and TGIFridays, etc will do excellently even if people who live here never go.

And in turn, what would these businesses owe the community? Local businesses help on street cleanup days, donate profits to local PTAs, help organize against things the community doesn't want, plant trees, etc. yet these national chains - which are not even patronized by locals - will do nothing to help the community either.

  • I suspect xlizellx is female.

If she was male, she would probably be too distracted by the thought of breasts to consider corporate responsibility and neighborhood participation.

  • I'm for hooters as its another spot to watch UFC fights, which BW3s in the mall currently has a monopoly on here (for the most part).

    Oh and I like boobs.

  • Not everybody in this neighborhood wants another coffee shop, mexican joint, or gourmet pizzeria. Bring on the hooters!

  • If it'll keep the arena crowd busy and away from the places I go, then I'm all for it. Hoot on!

  • BKChickie nails it.

  • I think "need" is too strong of a word re: Hooters.

As bkchickie's link points out, some women bare their breasts on the subway and can be seen for the mere price of a fare.

....perhaps Hooters will be most popular in the winter months, when cleavage is less available for public viewing?

I just hope the woman in the video doesn't transfer to "our" Hooters.

  • I think it's really about one's capacity for risk and need for convenience. Sure, Hooters is more money, but you could argue that there's value added to a Hooters v. MTA experience. First, you're guaranteed a sighting at Hooters, whereas you could pay the $2.25 and ride the subway for hours, days even, and never see this, or any other, topless woman. I assume that Hooters also curates its collection of...what do I call it...stock, but on the subway, you're stuck with whatever is available. Which, I'll admit, could be exciting for some people.

Topless choices. One of the things that's making NYC great :).

  • Yes.

And to those opposed to such choices, I say "bra humbug".

  • A Hooters will soon open near Madison Sq Garden, at the former location of Peep World.

In July, Community Board 5 received an application from Hooters of 33rd St. Inc. for a liquor license at 155 W. 33rd St. — the same spot where Peep World spent decades peddling adult films and sex toys.

The board recommended the State Liquor Authority approve the license without comment at a July meeting.

Peep World closed on March 26 after a close-out sale, prompting widespread sadness from its devoted clientele.

"It's a sad state of affairs that this city's perverts have so few places to go these days," one regular customer lamented at the time.

    Progress?

If those three are typical of Hooter's offerings, I think most people are going to go with the subway option.

OMG! We met 2 of the girls in this pic! Didn't we Whynot??

  • Mama-

    I plead the 5th.

Jack and I just want to know whether they are coming to Barclays Center.

  • Yes, do tell.

I disagree, BKChickie, these women are all hot!

  • Jack may enjoy the pleasure of not only seeing such women in orange shorts, but also them bringing him food and beer.

.In my experience, this rarely is provided by mere "subway women".

  • When Roark returns to New York, he visits the Cortlandt construction site and finds that his plans have been altered. His substructure remains unchanged, but new features cover the building’s façade. Toohey’s protégées secretly made these additions. Keating fought desperately to uphold the integrity of the building, but the interlopers overwhelmed him. Roark goes to see Dominique and asks her to drive past Cortlandt Homes the following Monday. She must stop in front of Cortlandt to pretend she is out of gas and send the night watchman to a gas station over a mile away. Dominique agrees, knowing that Roark only includes her so that she will not suffer later.

Dominique follows Roark’s instructions. She parks in front of the Cortlandt building and asks the night watchman to help her get gas. When he leaves, Dominique steps outside and sees the Cortlandt building explode in a brilliant ball of fire. Dominique returns to her car, part of which has been crushed under a piece of machinery. She crawls into the front seat and tries to make it look like she never left the car by slashing her neck, legs, and arms with a splinter of glass. When the police arrive, Dominique is unconscious and nearly dead.

  • Atlas Shrugged? The Fountainhead?

  • Now you have me wondering whether the three women pictured, and the one in the video, have ever even heard of Ayn Rand and the philosophy of Indiviidualism. I am also wondering whether this is a good or bad thing.

Jack, do you think the appeal of Hooters employees would be diminished or increased if they had membership cards to the John Birch Society tucked somewhere into those form fitting shorts?

  • Me thinks they got better uniforms.

  • We need a branch of Frank's Chicken House from Mansville, New Jersey. No liquor but the servers are topless.

  • Manville?

...with a town named MANville, you'd expect the servers to be topless.

Why have I never heard of this American male version of utopia?

According to you, the residents sit around eating chicken while being fed by topless women...

Does everyone drive a pick-up? Is there a Bass Pro Shop?

...pretty sneaky of them to officially state they names the town after a corporation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manville,_New_Jersey

Is there a neighboring town called WOMANville?

    What goes on there?
