Gentrification — Brooklynian

Gentrification

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Main Entry: gen·tri·fi·ca·tion
Pronunciation: "jen-tr&-f&-'kA-sh&n
Function: noun
: the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces earlier usually poorer residents:::

Nearly every post on this board seems required to use the word "gentrification"... yes, we all know that Park Slope wasn't always riddled with Starbucks, Union Hall and NYCSC. In the good old days there was immense poverty, crime, and basic deterioriation of the archtecitual landscape... Seems to be some kind of romantic grit for some of you.

Clearly, I'm not the greatest speller, but gentrification is not a four letter word. Change, is not only inevitable, it's a good thing. What? You say the apartment you live in now was only $425 20 years ago... and you're paying $1300??? Jesus, gas was $1.35, a burger was $3.00, and the subway was $.50.... It's called assigning the real cost to a product... gas should cost $7.00 a gallon, the subway should be $3.00 and your apartment costs what it costs... property taxes pay for your convience and safety... I'm rambling, but if you don't like it then leave.... nobody likes a complainer, especially when they complain about progress....

That statement is even more overused (on all sides) than "gentrification". [-(
  • i'm for urban renewal some guys just want things in a time capsule and like things "authentic". they are the worst type of gentrifiers.

Yes, carnivore... and leave to a message board such as this to choose such an irrelevant portion of my original post to attack.

Have you no focus? Do you have a point? Is this thread eventually going to peter into some off topic, stream of consciousness, waste of time?

Jesus.. that's why they have topic headings... if you want to talk about kids at the Tea lounge don't do it here.

But there was no one here when you wrote that initial post. Whom were you addressing?

My lord meanderthal... thank you for proving my point that the original thrust of my discussion thread would be buried by inconsequential details highligthed by unashamed anal retentitive members of this board.

To answer your question:: rambling is just that... rambling. To NOBODY. Absolutley, positive, not a single person that could possibly be listening to anything... see genius, rambling.

    Any other questions?

Don't you read this Board thouroughly before posting? This article has already circulated on two different Boards. You may be ramblin' but you're far from original.

Your entire post was a string of inconsequential details. What, the response to your admitted "rambling" wasn't focused enough?

If you don't like what we have to say here, leave!

See how productive that statement is?
