mortgage holders/homeowners: Work w/ local community banks or CUs?

Context: Wife and I are rate shopping, so we're obviously looking for good rates, but also, dependable, high-quality service from banks and their employees.
So I'll ask again: Any recommendations, warnings?
Thanks.

My husband is a mortgage broker, I process his loans. We have wholesale relationships with 3 of the banks on your list. Each one has their own set of rules and internal quirks.
It really depends on the details of your purchase as to who will have the most competitive rate. Most banks will now prioritize purchases over refi's, so your deal should not take months to finalize.

Addendum:
Please, only homeowners reply; nobody in the business (no brokers, lenders, agents, related) and thank you. I'm looking for homeowners' experiences with any of these banks during the mortgage or pre-approval process.
I realize all of what reader posted, of course. As that's common sense. I want real world anecdotes from homebuyers.
Thanks.
