Great new chorus for Jewish teens
I'm helping get the word out about the new Brooklyn chapter of a fantastic Jewish choral group for teenagers.
HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir Opening Day – Sunday, September 9th, 2PM to 4PM at Congregation Beth Elohim, Garfield Place at 8th Avenue.
Calling all 8th-12th grade musical teens!
HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir provides hundreds of Jewish high school-age students from across North America and Israel the unique opportunity to sing Jewish choral music, build community, develop leadership skills and connect to Jewish culture. (And for 11th & 12th graders there’s even an opportunity to earn 4 college credits.) HaZamir transcends boundaries, giving teens a valuable and rare trans-denominational experience as an opportunity to forge close friendships and unite in a common goal: a Gala Concert in Lincoln Center in March. Now entering its 20th year, HaZamir, a project of Matthew Lazar’s Zamir Choral Foundation, is forming its 20th chapter here in Brooklyn, the cradle of American Jewish music. Meet, greet, and get a taste of HaZamir at Congregation Beth Elohim on Sun 9/9, from 2-4pm. For more information, contact Cantor Josh Breitzer, [email protected], 718-768-3814 x270.
My son, who is now in college, was part of HaZamir Manhattan for several years and it was a fantastic experience - the kids sing at Carnegie Hall and all sorts of other exciting venues. It is totally non-denominational and so attracts the whole spectrum of Jewish kids. It provides them with a great way to get to know other Jewish teens from all around the world and have exciting performance opportunities, as well as get to know and sing some great music and have fun doing it. This new chapter is based in Park Slope but hopes to attract kids from across the borough.
If your teen is interested but can't make it this Sunday, be in touch with Josh and they can start on another Sunday soon.
