Curious about safety on Lefferts and Rogers, thoughts?
Hi, first off, I'm new but I've done a bit of homework and see that there are a few people who get really made when people make these topics. Let it be known that I have lived on the other side of lefferts towards the B/Q/S shuttle at prospect park and I really liked it a lot. I'm just trying to find out if this side of the area is the same, I've driven around there while looking for parking and it is a lot busier than where I was. Sorry to say, I also become suspicious any time I see a Kennedy Fried Chicken right outside the train station, that's me being slightly stereotypical but as a born and raised Bronx man I know certain things fit together. And to be clear, my definition of safe means:
Are there going to be groups of guys on corners looking at me like a pack of lions would an elk?
Do I have to tuck my iPhone away at night?
Do I have to walk my girlfriend to the corner store if she has a craving for ice cream?
I think these are legit concerns, thanks!

My regular running route takes me down those parts, and it seems quiet enough during the day. But five years ago, one cop was murdered and the other seriously hurt in a shootout on that block.

That would be enough to make me think twice.

Dear Bronx-guy, aka Trisbee,
I'm a 61-year-old white guy who's lived in this 'hood for the past three months.
From my experience, trust me: it couldn't be safer or more serene. People are just downright friendly -- and helpful.
This ain't the Bronx, ya know!

Thanks for coming out of the woodwork to share that, Russell. I was able to contribute the only two pieces of information I had about the area, but as a resident your experience bears more weight.

I've lived a few blocks away for many years and frequently go to Jazz Night and other PLG Arts events at the Inkwell on Rogers between Lefferts and Sterling. I don't think there's much to be concerned about [but, as iPhone thefts are the crime of the day, you really should tuck your iPhone away at night anywhere in the city].

I think most of your concerns can be solved with general common sense, but my advice is to experiment. Send your girlfriend out wearing the skimpiest clothes possible with her ipohone hanging 75% out of her back pocket and holding cash in hand. Do this at 3 am friday or saturday night. If she makes it home then you live in the safest neighborhood in the world.

Sometimes, yes and depends on how much you like her
