Poop.

Hmm, delivers fresh poop to your doorstep in rain, sleet or snow? I go for The "Poostman".
Btw, sounds like someone needs to get a front door camera...they are getting cheaper and cheaper and could provide hours of entertaining footage for this website.
-
Two thoughts:
1) our dog could be used as a barometer on the human/dog issue. He only eats human poop. So, if needed we can bring him by a door and see if he will lick it.
2) I theorize it to be human because if it were dog, the supply would be huge and more than one door could be smeared per night. -
Merdeman..
-
mrs whynot, hopefully it won't happen again - but if it does we may call on your pooch to settle the debate. My assessment was that it was of the human variety, but the (very kind) neighbor who did the clean up says that after being up close and personal with it, he thinks it was canine.

we may never know.

GENERAL FECES!

We had a guy in our dorms in college who would poop in the showers at night. I've always called him the "Poopetrator." Seems apt here, too.
-
The Poop vandalizer is moving East! We had him/her vandalize our building (Prospect Pl between Rogers and Nostrand) last night. Any tips?
-
Hi everyone, I'm a reporter for Metro and we're doing a story on this string of stinky events. I'd really like to get in touch someone who experienced this vandalism. I just have a few quick questions that could be answered by phone or email. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone is available! Please let me know at [email protected]. Thanks so much!

What more does one need to know? The door was smeared with poop. No one knows who did it or what species it was from. Better to interview the pooperator.

It appears the poop-etrator has moved further east into Crown Heights, judging by this post:
-
The Patch and Metro have picked up the story. Apparently, their favorite term was "poopetrator"

The phenomena is apparently so common the Urban Dictionary already has "poopetrator" listed, and will provide you with a variety of merchandise emblazed with the definition:

Same thing happened in my building on Eastern Parkway near Washington last summer. It was really confusing.
-
Not surprisingly, the pattern is continuing.

I caught him on camera and I know who it is. Guys, i don't know what to do next. Cops? Restraining order? What??? Advice anyone?
-
It's someone you know personally? Or just someone you know by sight?
-
call the police. Turn over a copy of your video (keep a copy) and stay on them until they do something about it.
-
In addition to giving the photo to the police, please send them to me, and tell me about this guy.
If circumstances warrant, I will let the local mental health programs know that one of their clients requires additional intervention....
If the guy is doing this to your door because he has a grudge against you for something, this would seem to be more of a police matter and less of a mental health matter.

He is a neighbor that moved into the area right next door of me literally in late winter of this year, which coincides with these reported poop attacks. (God this is so improbable.) Our camera catches him walking out his own door with his dogs, walking to the right (out of sight of the camera) coming back into the frame about two minutes later and smearing the poop in a smooth swiping motion.
Later, he comes back to watch two ladies discover his surprise, following them back down the street, watching htem, then turning around. THEN, he comes back about 15 minutes later and CLEANS IT UP!
SO BIZARRE!!! Honestly, I'm not sure what to do. He's a next door neighbor, very distinctive if you live in the neighborhood. If i described his person, you would likely know who i'm talking about. We're going to the police to report both vandalism of the building and harassment of the ladies in question (he's been stalking them/screaming at them), but i'm also considering putting it to local news and press because, honestly, once you get over how weird it is, it's kind of hilarious? And also everyone should know that he's been seen and taped smearing poop. AND HE should know that everyone knows that he's been caught and taped smearing poop, which may deter him.
-
That he wants to see the effect of his actions on others fits a pattern in these types of incidents.
[Ex. Serial masturbators and exhibitionists like to see the disgusted expression on women's faces. Serial arsonists like to see the people flee the building and the fire fighters put it out. Etc.]
Despite you having photos, the police may choose to take no action, or action which is not effective. ...which leaves you in the role of the problem solver.
While taking this to the level of the press may be fun, you might be able to most effectively deal with this very local problem, -um- very locally.
A little research by you could result in you learning his name.
Then, start small, and (if need be) escalate.
For example, You could send him a letter that states "We, the 50 people who have signed this letter, know where you live, and want you to cut it out." On the letter, provide him with the number for lifeline: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/cis/cis_lifenet.shtml
If the problem continues, you could create flyers about the incident and put them on local telephone poles, and/or meet with your neighbors to brainstorm.
-
I know his name, his address (next door to me, ugh), everything. I was considering flyers. thanks for the good advice. As soon as i get the go ahead on the videos i'll try to post them here (just want to make sure there's no legal trouble with posting them.)
Thanks again, i'll keep everyone advised. Also, clearly, i'm posting under my real name so if you have more questions i should be pretty easy to find via a quick google or fb search.

Does anyone in your building have a dog? I've heard people getting really mad at dog owners for not picking up poop, and fantasizing about doing basically what he did, only with the poop of the dog that lives in the building. Maybe he wanted the dog owner to see it but didn't want all the tenants to have to deal with it. Or he's a little nuts.
Also, I am impressed that you got this on film. Thanks for reporting back!
If Bored to Death hadn't been cancelled, I'd bet good money that this would end up in an episode.
-
@Opossum, we do have a couple of dogs in the building, but this is not a dog retaltiation thing. The two ladies in question don't have a dog and this was clearly done in retaliation for a perceived slight (he was blocking their driveway, they asked him to move, he was furious and will not leave them alone about it, like, for DAYS.)
-
Yikes, good luck resolving it!
-
Hmmm. That definately puts some more light on this matter. He seems as if he isn't serial poop spreading, as much as he is DIRECTED poop spreading. (...he might not be the guy spreading it elsewhere in the neighborhood)
He needs to be told by an authority figure that his actions aren't appropriate.
If the police won't step up, is he a renter? Could his landlord be contracted....
-
He may also be the guy spreading it in the neighborhood. He is not angry just at these ladies. As far as I can tell, he is also angry (for all different reasons) at two other residents of our building and also at the fruit seller on the corner, and the co-op up the street (he has told me he's filing violation complaints about them to harass them). He may get into rages at various people in the neighborhood and then smear their doors, you know what I mean? I have also heard him threatening people on the phone and also his own workers (he bought the brownstone next door, he WILL BE a landlord, yikes!)
I mean, the way he goes into uncontrollable rages and finds ways to retaliate. I could fully see him poop-smearing someone's door because they were "looking at him funny."
-
Thanks, Opposum!

-
I'd send the tape to NY1 news, the Post, F'd in Park Slope Blog, Gothamist, and put it up on youtube etc. in addition to handing a copy to the police. Once the press is on it the cops will follow.
