Water safety? — Brooklynian

Water safety?

I am just wondering, with the fact that the Gowanus canal overflowed and leaked toxic STD's erm I mean sewage into the streets, and many of the sewage systems were overflowing, how safe is drinking water?

It's just a thought, considering how much water has just flooded our infrastructure and probably compromised most of our utilities.

  • Bloomberg said at today's press conference that the city is adding more chlorine to the water and it is perfectly safe to drink everywhere in NYC. Storm sewers and the drinking water supply don't mix anyway.

  • Bloomberg's folly: delaying Superfund status for Gowanus canal.

  • The source of the City's drinking water is the Catskills. It wouldn't be impacted by anything happening at the Gowanus canal.

That is good to know. I was just wondering about the infrastructure that brings said water down from the Catskills. Did it withstand the surge? I guess so from what I hear
