Were you able to get a car today? I had zero luck. Please let me know who you used and would be very interested in car pooling tomorrow.
Best,

I advise against it. Expect a minimum 90-minute commute from here to the other side of the bridges in Manhattan.
Get a bicycle, it's gonna be your best bet for getting around the next couple of weeks.

Seems there will be very limited subway service tomorrow and a shuttle from downtown Brooklyn to Midtown. Tomorrow's commute should be slightly better than today's, but that's not saying much. A friend's commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan took nearly 3 hours. I can walk to my office in less time, so, I think that's what I'll end up doing if I can't borrow a bike.

While a bike is a super way of getting around. (I honestly believe that everyone in the city should own a bike and no one should own a car.) This is not the environment you want to learn to ride the streets in. There's more traffic then ever both motorized and man powered. The city has done a great job of pushing all the debris off of the streets and right into the bike lanes.
That being said if you own a bike now would be a great time to dust the thing off check you brakes, chain and tires.

I've been cycling in the city for nearly ten years, and I'd say it's as good a time as any for starting the habit. Gridlock is easier to deal with than regular, fast-moving traffic.

hey guys please pm me if you are interested in carpool tomorrow.

"Many frequent bike commuters said that, with sparse traffic in downtown Manhattan, conditions for biking were ideal."

There's a new website to try to find carpools: http://rootless.me/nyc
Good luck.

I, sir, eat my words.
If just two positive things come out of this bloody mess; I hope their a greater appreciation for how important mass transit is and how bike are part of the city's transportation infrastructure.

The fact that you have to turn your head to read it, adds to the intended effect.
