Joey Gourmet Lunchbox - is it finally open?

My wife walked past it on the way home last night. She said the sidewalk was packed with men standing in front of the place. The interior looked to her like a sports bar with a bunch of guys standing around looking at TV screens.
-
But they don't serve alcohol! I wonder what the big draw was? The menu I saw looked interesting, with lots of short-order items. The addition of the Punchline Juice Bar a year ago was a big improvement to that block. The owner of Joey's appears to have spent considerable time and money doing something worthwhile. Let's see if it works.

I walk by the place every day and I've never seen it open. Anybody know what's going with that place?

Subject: Delicious and Reasonably Priced Food!!!
The food is GREAT!! I finally stopped in this afternoon. I can't believe how reasonably priced they are!
I ordered a side of Tofu w/ spinach -$1.20
A side of grilled shrimp $1.50
A side of chicken $1.50
And a Philly Cheese Steak that came with fries - $6.00
And the food was delicious! I don't know what I expected, but Joey's surpassed every expectation.
The price of all their burgers includes fries and I think the price starts at $4.00 for the veggie burger up to $5.50 for beef or turkey.
I haven't tried their breakfast or coffee, but what I did order was simply delicious!!!! -
I haven't tried the food yet, but I did stop in and get a menu. The menu looks great, but I walk past it every morning about 7:45 and it's not open. Why have a breakfast menu? Maybe they should call it a brunch menu.

I finally made it to Joey's today for lunch. What a great experience! I loved the built-in counters with glass over trays of coffee beans, from green to French roast and everything in between and the wall with the names of Brooklyn nabes painted in various size type. And each of the sandwiches named after a neighborhood. I had the Fort Greene, your basic turkey burger deluxe for about $5.50
The owner told me they had opened only three days ago. He claims to have operated several fast food franchises in Staten Island, but said this is his first solo venture in Brooklyn, where he lives.
Like, welcome to the n'hood!! -
This place has been closed since I moved here last year. I though it was out of business, then all of a sudden I passed it a few days ago and it seemed open. Anyone know the story with this place? From the reviews it seems like it was a good burger joint
-
I should add, since the day I saw it open, it has not been open since
-
The hours became very sporadic and the service became very poor, then, it closed.
-
It has been open sporadically over the last couple of weeks, similar to its original pattern.
-
It's open again right now, debated going in and then psyched myself out thinking "how fresh are the ingredients if they're only open once in a while." Passed it up for CT Muffin.
I did see a painter outside taking a smoke break and then head back inside so maybe they're prepping for a re-opening of some sort
-
Wait, this place didn't just open?! I thought about poking my head in a few times but no one else was ever in there. Also the guy working the counter was always sitting at the counter texting. Anyone actually eat here recently?
-
Has anyone else noticed the stink coming from the building that used to house Joey's?
-
I think that this place is a classic example of not realizing how much time, $, and effort it takes to establish a new food business.
If it ever reopens, hopefully they will distance themselves from the past with a Under New Management sign.
-
And sans smell which finally seems to be gone now.
-
The smell wasn't coming from Joey's itself, but from the small alleyway which runs from Nostrand into the back courtyard of the three apartment buildings on Park Place. The commercial businesses keep a dumpster there for their trash. It smelled like a small animal (cat, rat, possum) had died back there. The smell was kind of strong for 3-4 days but seems to have gone away which I assume meant that either the dumpster was emptied or one of the building supers cleaned up back there.
-
This place is now up for rent
-
Yes, I noticed that last night. What would folks like to see take its place? That corner is a bit eclectic with the botanica, makeup/lotions/oils/aromatherapy place, the juice bar and the barbershop.
-
A decent cafe, with some workers who know what they are doing.
-
I still want that sports bar or grill! A real one with good buffalo wings. I know, I know not going to happen on Nostrand soon but a boy can have a dream. I'd like another coffee shop or a tex mex place.

Place just got a fresh coat of paint! Maybe something is opening soon?
-

Has the awning been taken down?
-
Yep no longer brown. It's green I think.
-
Interior and exterior painted green, saw them working on the awning yesterday, but it had not come down by the time came home.
-
Looks like they're just focusing on the interior to me. Awning was still up. Does look like they were pulling CCTV cables through it though.
-
New awning up today. "Caribbean Flavors Restaurant"
-
Aren't we maxed out on Caribbean restaurants yet? I was really hoping for a mexican or a wings spot.
