The 8th Annual Brooklynian Festivus: Friday Dec 21, 2012
Once upon a time, the internet was newer and perceived as cooler than it is now. A local message board, Brooklynian, thrived from the contributions of people who lived near each other yet had never met in real life.
The idea of celebrating Festivus was born. For seven years in a row, the strange events were held:
As time went on, the events became not only a chance to meet new people, but to see long lost posters who remarkably have achieved somewhat productive lives.
To my surprise, last year's event attracted approximately twenty-five (25) misfits. Although I have never been sure what this event is about, I think this is a fine year to do again.
Let the NYPD and all other interested parties be advised that this year's event will be held at Franklin Park on December 21, in the "big room", from 8 PM - closing.
All are welcome ...especially curious onlookers, sociologists, and psychologists.
The hunt for a suitable Festivus Pole has begun.

We will be there!
-
Hope to make it this year (if my office holiday party isn't the same night!).
-
I've created a Facebook Event, and about 10 people have already RSVP'd via that method.
Time will tell how many people from the past and present actually show up.
-
I cant find the invite
I would be down to come though... might be the last one
-
PM me your Facebook info, I'll add you and send you an invite.

Oh noes! If I hadn't been waiting for MONTHS to have this duo finally play the USA someplace near NYC, I would definitely make it to the Festivus.
The thing is I cannot call myself a Celtic harp enthusiast/player and miss the legendary playing of this woman:

I can't miss her shred her harp for anything.. on the 21st at 8pm in Boston!

Clearly you are not one of the nutjobs that believes the World will end on the day of the 8th Festivus, Dec 21, 2012.
The poor Mayans: people are going to say they were wrong about something they never even claimed to be true.
-
The Mayans celebrated Festivus?
-
A good question.
I can tell you that the Mayans certainly did not celebrate Christmas, as that holiday post dated them.
The origin of Festivus is less clear, so it is entirely possible that they celebrated it.
Likewise, they could have had their calendar end on Dec 21, 2012 because they knew I was going to schedule Festivus for that date.
However, I do not think that the world will end as a result of us having Festivus, or from their calendar stopping.
-
I'm in! But seems I have a couple of other things on the same night, so might not be prompt.

Breaking News Update: Today is trash day in parts of Prospect Heights, and suitable raw materials for this year's Festivus Pole were located.
I will paint it silver this week and post a photo.
Newbies interested in attending this event should look for said pole at the location and time that the event will be held.

It was good seeing everyone last night!

Much thanks to the owner of Amorina (Albano Ballerini) for contributing pizza two years in a row!
-
Had a great time, good drinks, the bar wasn't too packed for comfort, and the pizza from Amorina was AMAZING. No shill, it is my favorite pizza in the area! So good!
Howdy, Stranger!
