What to get instead of atrocious Verizon DSL?
You guys always give such great advice! My BF runs his business from home, and since he's lost his internet/phone connection AGAIN--this is the second time in just a couple of weeks; last time it was out for days--he is more than ready to dump Verizon and their useless tech support.
He has DSL running off a landline. He wants to keep the landline so he has consistent service for the business phone, which is internet-based. He'd be willing to go to cable, but it's Time Warner in his neighborhood (the Slope)--not sure they're any more reliable. No Fios available. I hope this description makes sense.
What are his options? Thanks for your feedback!

I had Time Warner once upon a time and had very good internet service. I know that I endlessly streamed netflix while downloading other movies I wanted to keep and never had a problem. Now I have sucky Verizon dsl because its either that or Cablevision where I live. To me Cablevision is satan incarnate. So now I buy bootleg DVDs because well Verizons Dsl service is only marginally less crappy than Cablevision.

Funny, I had TW years ago, and it was spotty service; I had to constantly unplug and replug the modem when the connection went down-- that was their only solution for it. When I needed them to come out, they were really unreliable. Now I have Cablevision, and I think they're great! Almost never have an issue, the customer service people are lovely and helpful, and the rare occasion a service guy has to come, it's ASAP and they are never late. Go figure.

I have Time Warner Cable now, and am pretty happy with the service.

Had TW for years here, shitty spotty service, troubles every month (constantly for years) and switched to Verizon. Only 1 issue in the past 1 1/2 years -and it was resolved within a day. So there you go. Until FIOS comes we only have those 2 options to choose from...

I've had multiple issues with time warner internet and hate them with a passion, but once they actually FIXED my problem instead of giving me the runaround for months on end, its been solid. I think there's another thread around here detailing everyone's experiences.
I'd assume if you sign up for business internet instead of residential you'd get a better level of service, but I could just be wishful thinking.
I'd definitely give them a try over verizon DSL, I know that shi*t is painfully slow.
Howdy, Stranger!
