Can anyone recommend meditation classes?

Hi folks.

I am crowd-sourcing you lovely patrons of this site yet again for meditation classes. Doesn't HAVE to be in Brooklyn, but I'd prefer it. I want strictly meditation, NOT yoga.

I don't care if the classes are free or cost $$.

I just want GOOD basic meditation classes (meaning)

You learn to meditate

You actually practice the techniques

you learn some of the practical philosophy etc

I am hoping for a place without:

BABIES/children (annoying mommy types)

religious/occult/guru/snake oil salesman types, that want to up-sell you, convert you, or turn you into a zombie acolyte/cult member.

If you know someone or have been to a good class, please post with your recommendation

A second enthusiastic vote for the Vajradhara Center (link above)

Matthew Riechers is a really, really gifted teacher, so look for him in the schedule.

The orientation of the classes is buddhist, and the emphasis is philosophical and practical. In my experience nothing was ever preachy or pushy. I think most anyone would feel completely comfortable.

Love that place. They are very gentle in their Sunday morning instruction, and then you join the regular meditation of the entire group, which is strict in terms of silence and stillness but still very welcoming.

ETA: Looks like their Sunday program has moved to Saturday
